in the past ive used.

engine laquer..because i already had it.
smooth hammerite...lasted ages.

you can ofcourse buy caliper paint, but in my experience it aint cheap.

hammerite will withstand the temperature, but will chip every time you knock it.

caliper lacquer tends to be 2 pack and more resistant to chipping but it's about 5 times the price of the hammerite.

perhaps coach enamel?

Halfords do caliper paint in a tin, its problably not as tough as the 2 part caliper paints but its about 1/4 of the price and easier to toutch up.

Is high temp resistance paint really necessary on calipers? In the past I've always used normal black cellulose on motorbike calipers and it stayed on very well. Alloy calipers no primer. At worst it will just fall off. Also gold or red looks very nice on Brembos or similar but not so smart on standard M16's.

Hammerite or Smoothrite has always done me proud for a Locost job. As already said, it will chip easily but takes the heat without any problems - I also use it on the unswept areas on my discs to prevent rusting.

I think caliper paint's main claim to fame is that it's not affected by brake fluid rather than it being especially high temp.

Yeh u might be right on that Fista cos normal cellulose certainly suffers every time u bleed the brakes.
