Hello
I will be running sierra front uprights with std calipers on my Cobra and the std disc size (vented) is 240mil, I have been given some 260mil vented
discs brand new.
Will they fit? I understand that the brake pad won't cover the entire disc but can they fit with std calipers?
Cheers
Hi there
Had a quick look again, here is a useful link on the models and disc sizes:

Cheers

They are prob sierra with rear discs.
Sierra with drums where 240mm, sierra with discs were 260.
Im not sure, but i think the calipers are the same between the 240 and the 260.
if this is the case you just need to get a set of 260mm caliper carriers. ( sierra read disc, or rs turbo )
if they are i might have a set ( bit grubby ).
cosworth were 283mm vented, so they are not cosworth.
They probably will fit (edit:with the right calipers)
I have a set of 260mm vented discs and calipers that bolted onto std sierra uprights. They were off the XR4i.
In the QH catalog the XR4i was listed as having 239 and 260mm discs.
260 was ABS version.
U2U me if you need the calipers (or brand new discs) as I don't need them now.
I could grab a photo of them but I don't have the uprights any more.
Paul.

260 vented fit on 15" rims. And interestingly lotus elise AP racing aluminium calipers radial mounted will fit this disc. Thats the set up I will
be running, I have all the bits apart from I need to have some aluminium mounting brackets machined up.
Actually the ones that fit elise calipers are probably 283mm I'll check when I get home.

Just measured them and they are 283mm and just remembered that the guy did say they were cossie.
No good then eh?
they will need different calipers - sierra cosworth 4x4 calipers and brackets ( not the sierra 2wd ones as the standard hubs are different to 2wd
cossie hubs ).
i happen to have a set of those too !!!

Bit confused here, i thought you were looking for MK3 granada running gear ?
Remember granada will have bigger brake/disc combo but will have hubs for 5 bolt wheels, sierra will be 4 bolt.
Some of this has been said already, but here goes anyway........
There are 3 types of single pot calipers on sierra's and granada's with vented discs
1 - Std. ones from sierra's with drum rears, these suit the 240mm discs
2 - Std. ones from cars with rear discs (ie ABS, V6, 4x4, but not cossie), these suit the 260mm discs - these are found on all non-cossie
sierra's with rear discs and all non-cossie granada's (and MK3 RS turbo escorts I think) and fit under fords 14" wheels
3 - Sierra/ Escort cossie 4x4 and Granada 24v cossie's type - its a even bigger version of the other 2 kinds, and its fitted over 278mm discs
(15" wheels) - but the uprights for these are different from the std. Sierra and this means that the cossie 4x4 disc has a much smaller offset -
I think you can use the discs from a cossie 2wd (283mm ones) with these calipers but I'm not sure if you need spacers etc (but I could be wrong
on this)
One option that Dax (and others) offer is a set of brakets to make the 240mm disc type calipers fit over the cossie 4x4 discs
- obviously the pads will only cover the outer part of the disc in this case, but gain some leaverage
The 4th type of caliper is the sierra cossie 2wd 4 pot ones, these are the ones that use 283mm discs - these can be made to fit a std. sierra upright
but I wouldn't recomend it (although I have a set, in need of a recon with some old discs+pads, if anyone wants them)
Also you can convert your sierra front hubs to 5 stud like I've done - this means you could stick with the 260mm granada discs + calipers
or possibly the cossie 24v 278mm discs and calipers - but I've never tried that yet
also I'm working on a bracket design for wilwood calipers over cossie 24v discs
These are my sierra uprights - with granada hubs machined down to suit the sierra brearings + seals (£10 the pair for the work)
They have the 260mm disc type calipers fitted (ie. Std granada ones)
the only differences between the granada and sierra 260mm discs (apart from the number of studs) are 5mm in the offset and the granada's hub is 1
or 2mm bigger which makes the sierra discs a bit tight
I'm using the granada discs rather than re-drilled sierra ones, which means I need the 5mm thk spacers you can see and some 5mm longer bolts
[grade 10.9 btw]
[this post turned a bit longer than I meant it too ]

the cossie 24v discs are 279mm, which are the same as mondeo v6 discs except for the number of studs.
the sierra/escort cosworth calipers ( single pots ) will fit fine on the sierra hub using 283 rwd sierra cosworth discs - no spacers needed.
These sizes are from the EBC website/ cataloge:
no offsets as such, but I think all these discs are 24mm thk (apart from Focus RS) so the height it should be a good comparson of offset
differences
You'd need to check that the discs will fit over whatever hubs you've got as they do vary a little (I can't find these dimensions)

I used Lotus Elise front calipers on Sierra uprights with V6 Mondeo discs & made up radial mounting bracket from ally bar. You do have to be
careful with wheel choice though if using 15'' wheels as clearance can be a problem.

From memory, (I am not near the car today), I think it was 25mm square bar, I can't remember the hardness but it needs to be decent as it has to
be tapped.
The brakes are more than adequate for heavy track use with standard pads due to their size.

Thanks for the info chaps. I'll digest it over a cup of PG

Going Sierra Donor as it's far cheaper and easier plus it will be fine with a Rover V8 I have some brand new Sierra uprights that i may aswell
use!

The rears will be 4 stud so ok there!
