what colour to paint my axle?
blakep82 - 4/1/08 at 06:51 PM

well, its got all the brackets welded and a good few coats of zinc primer, but what colour do i paint it?

i want something different really, something bright, but what colour goes with anything? haven't decided on a chassis or body colour yet. don't know what to do there either. i'm worried all my colours are gonna clash! lol

Halfords sell Dayglo orange or green paint - cant get much brighter than that and would give us all a laugh!!

Might also blind the SVA man so much he misses all the glaring failure points underneath the car

Id say paint it yellow, i painted the rear beam off my 106 rallye that colour and it looked well

Mark Allanson - 4/1/08 at 07:23 PM

Why have you got axle stands stuck to your wall?

(My axle is red!)

bonzoronnie - 4/1/08 at 07:25 PM

Everything that leaves my workshop is either Red or Blue.

Yes I admit it. I have no imagination

Could be worse.

When I worked for a local well known compressor company.
My customers only got the choice of Matt Black or JCB Yellow

OOHHH, but I do miss that powder coating plant.

Mine's black (ooer!) 'cos it goes with anything - and you can't see it with the boot box fitted anyway.

I've seen silver, which is workmanlike and tidy, and I've also seen one painted gold (by Jon Ison?) that looked smart.

Heh, I have a mate who worked as a coachbuilder for the fire service.
Half the cars in the car park were "fire engine red"

In the words of Rolling Stones "Paint it Black"

"I wanna see it painted, painted, painted, painted black
Yeah!"

Satin black is my preferred choice....

Confused but excited. - 4/1/08 at 08:11 PM

Matt grey?

Paul TigerB6 - 4/1/08 at 08:16 PM

Looks as though they would be ideal for your car in your avatar!

Gloss light grey, oil leaks and cracks in the brackets are easily traceable and visible. It also won't clash jarringly with whatever you choose. Gloss so it's easy to clean.

If anyone sees the axle after the car is finished then you won't be giving a damn what colour it is!

Caber

BLACK or the colour you make your chassis.

grtz

blakep82 - 4/1/08 at 09:37 PM

thanks for the input guys! black seems popular, wanted something a bit more different and interesting though.

i had thought of dayglo orange before i have to say (i actually wanted to paint the chassis dayglo orange for the 1st foot or 2, then fading into purple, although i had thought of candy blue for the body... thought that may clash :L

yellow's good! i think my sister had her axles yellow with green flecks in it on one of her 4x4 suzukis.

hmmmm, yellow it may be, guess i can always paint it again if its bad

the axle's actually fairly visible from the back of the truck!

this doesn't show it particulalry well, taken from too high up, but you can se the diff cover easy enough

What tyres are you using? I think I will get some for trackdays.

blakep82 - 6/1/08 at 04:44 PM

well, it ended up flourescent orange for now anyway. some of the primer started to flake probably should have roughed it up a bit before priming it...

shame it looks a bit pink in this photo though...

and here's a lesson, always wear a mask when painting! i never used to worry about it too much, til i looked at this!

oh, er... i thought you were serious

have to admit though, i liked the idea of it before, just needed someone else to say it

i think it looks quite good, another few thicker coats to stop it looking dry and it'll be good
