Hey all
I'm trying to make a flare to fit into the master cylinder
but i just end up with a trumpet type flare, thats the wrong way around i need a mushroom type.

am i doing something wrong

You need to go in with the Operation 1 tool or tip. That should give you a mushroom.
Steve.

Have you got the instructions? Leave a bit of pipe sticking up to the level of the shoulder on the 3/16" die, put the pip of the die into the hole in the pipe then screw the handle down till it stops. Now unscrew it and unclamp and remove the die. That is a single flare. For a double just remove the die and screw the point down the centre.

if you have machine mart tool, like mine, then the instructions are incorrect.

to do single flare, as ^^^^ said.

for bracke pipe, I found about 6 mm sticking out, then press with the appropriate anvil to flare it out.

make sure you have the fitting on the pipe!!!

also make sure the pipe is vertical and the anvil fits properly - if pushed on at an angle, the centre piece can break off.

practice a cople of times on some pipe to get the a feel for it.

Ok excuse the drawing, but it's the only way i can show what's happening

on the left is what i always get
on the right is what i need!
i'm inserting the anvil as per instructions, but its just flares open tha way way each time

Can't quite see from the picture what the Draper tool does but I would be surprised if it didn't do the mushroom flare you want.

Why don't you do what the seller suggests " if you require any assistance...." and call him ?

Peteff - 31/10/07 at 11:42 PM

It also says single which is what you want. That is exactly the same as my Machine Mart set and if you are following the instructions you can't go wrong. As above, try phoning him for help.

What you need to do is make a Double flare as per the instructions but omit the last operation which will leave a mushroom

I know this may sound a daft question but you are using one of the dies fitted to the pipe first arent you not just winding the clamp straight in, the dies being the little round things with a pip on one side. the pip goes into the open end of your pipe

Your drawing looks like you are either doing the 2 step operation where you only need to do the first step or you are not fitting a die to your pipe before winding the clamp down

I had a go with the fuel lines and got the result i wanted, so i must be doing something right, just seems when i try the brake pipe it flares the wrong way everytime. i'm using the 3/16 pip.
i didn't buy the tool from that bloke on Ebay it was just to show you which one i'm using.

maybe the pip is worn down?
