Managed to get hold of a momo steering hub for cheap but I can't get it to fit the column. Its an adjustable column and I've compressed it (the spring inside the outer column that is) but the upper part with the hexagonal end and bolt doesn't seem to come out far enough. The hub just fouls on the steering lock and indicator contacts. What am I doing wrong, anyone know?

Have you put the key in and turned it to disengage the steering lock?

Yeah it just won't go. I'll get a photo, see if that helps.

Here's a photo. The column comes out a bit more but not enough to enter the hub. Was told the hub was of a Sierra Cosworth, I'm thinking not maybe.

Mr. G, on the other end of the steering column there is a triangular shaft that goes up inside a triangular sleave, this can get knock in thereby shortening the whole thing. I assume that you haven't connected up the steering to the rack, or maybe you have, disconnect and the shaft should pull through enough to connect the boss to it. Hope all that makes some kind of sence, personaly I can't understand it. Ray

Yeah. I haven't connected it to the rack yet. I shoved the triangular shaft right up inside the sleeve but it just don't seem to come far enough. Thanks for the help though.

No, No, you need to pull the triangle shaft OUT as far as it will go, thats what is stopping the shaft from going in far enough. Knew I hadn't explained it clearly. Ray

I have an adjustable column and a Mountney boss and it fits fine, I'll have a look how far out it needs to be tomorrow and get a picture.

Ray. On the middle shaft is a ring, spot welded in 3 places with a spring on top. This is the non triangular piece by the way. I compress this spring and the ring contacts the outer shaft stopping things going further through.
Can anyone tell me the momo code, it should be stamped on the side of the solid hub base. Mine says K4529 which I think maybe might be a Fiesta

It's a lot further out than yours. Get swinging on it.

^Double entendre time^. Cheers fellas, I've found out what the problem was though after a quick call to Momo. I've been sold the wrong hub. Its for a Fiesta/Escort but still, the fella I got it off said he'll take it back with a refund, good eh. Then to top it off, I nipped into Halfords (I know, tempting fate!) for a couple of 90 degree coolant hoses (which they didn't have!) and mentioned the hub to a mithering assistant and he said they're normally £30 or £40 so I asked him to find out properly which it was and because they're discontinuing Sierra ones I got it for £7.99!! Bargain. I'm well happy
