Chain drive
locost86 - 25/3/07 at 09:10 PM

Hi, was wondering if anyone out there has got this setup and knows the in and outs of it. I'm trying to build a sprint/hillclimb car with a 750cc 140bhp ish bike engine. I currently have a 'cortina atlas' with no LSD. Any advice etc greatly appreciated.

Are these setups for IRS use only? Do you need to mount the engine in the rear for this configuration?

two things, chain drive is mainly used for rear engined cars, and not with live axles. Dont get me wrong, im sure some smartarse has somehow done a live axle with chain drive or a front engined one etc, but mainly its rear engined and IRS. If you want front engined, far more sensible to use a propshaft. Having a live axle would make it impossible to tighten your chain up.

I had my suspicions. I did think that it would be a stupid thing to do by running a chain that far. Have just looked at a few rear mounted engine kitcars. Propshaft it is then. Cheers all.

Not really, just keep repeating myself, repeating myself, repeating myself.........!
We really need a sticky section on the forum.

Stickies don't work, you just end up posting "Look in the sticky" hundreds of times rather than "Do a search".

no harm in repeating things IMHO, keeps stuff fresh and turning over.

Even if it is only less than a week?

well, personally im not bothered. Cant say much more than that! If you type 'chain' into the search you get loads of useless links, so it not like he's taken the piss.
