Jon Ison - 4/1/07 at 04:53 PM

Like lots of people had the usual problems losing the odd wing until I made these 4 years back, tried too describe in the past what I had done but now have the chance too post a pic, they are supported by a welded bit holding the two together fastened too the top of the upright with the top ball joint going through the big hole you can see, they have been 100% reliable and totally vibration read flappy abouty free.

Just thought I would share the pic while there off the car. Rescued attachment stay.JPG

Jon, how have you fitted your wings to the stays??? Are they bolted on or glued? Oli.

Jon - what size steel did you use?

Steel...........

Front arm 30x3mm flat bar, back one and bridge bit 25x2mm flat bar.

They was bolted, new ones will be tiger seal or the likes.

A lot like the ones I made for my Avon.

Just wondering how long everyone else will take to catch up with the one flat for each stay with no weld joints to snap!

I suspect the other point that makes these more robust is that there is no change in section, i.e. no bits of springy flat strip welded to rigid tubes so no stress concentrations.
