What is the general advice for selecting suspension bushes? Do I:
1.Build the book spec arms and use "Herald" bushes
2.Build book spec arms and buy poly bushes? (Where from?)
3.Build arms with larger diameter bush tubes?
I don't intend to go racing.

not quite the answer to your question but another idea to float passed you guys.
i plan on using nylon bushings whith a steel inner sleeve. any advice on this. i see another locost builder had used these on his, not a new idea, any
comments?
The Herald bushes will be slightly more compliant than the 'poly' bushes (I'm assuming you mean polyurethane).
I'm using PU on mine (book chassis) just because they were readily available.
Nylon ones would probably be too hard for road use - there is little or no compliance in them (so you could get away with using no inner tube). Nylon
is a natural bearing material so can run fine on the shank of a bolt.

Even with Nylon you will need the central tube, this is the cush tube, it provieds the pivot once the bolt is tightend, other wise you will bend the
brackets and bind the joint? Or have I missed somthing?

Hi westfield sell some herald type ones that have a softer shore rating than standard replacment ones they work really nice on a westfield but posibly
a bit expencive but it is a case of just pressing them in to your wishbones once made as the pivot/crush tube is already in the bush.
Or there is the ones that almost all locost manufacturers use that only cost 30p a pair and then all you need to do is make your own inner
pivot/crush tubes out of stainless and then machine it to suit every individual wishbone/bracket combo so they dont have a binding effect when
tightend up.

i was going to make mine from regular steel.... cut and file to suit...
is that not good? i mean, the entire crush tube sits in the bushes, covered with grase...
I'm using the peugeot 205 bushes. They have a 10 mm inner diameter. I have made them 12 mm.
They only cost 3 euro each.
The arms are 25 mm dia and 3 mm thick.
I'm building the avon-arms and made them longer (wide-track 147 cm)

Id use poly bushes. All kit makers do them. Eg GTS, mk.
The inner tubes are just cut down tube. Aslong as the diameters right inside and outside.
Hi sorry i meant machine in lenght to stop the outer bush being crushed inbetween the bracket and resulting in stiff movement .
The inner pivot/crush tube needs to be in stainless as no matter how much grease you use you will not stop the moisture and rust getting in. Just ask
any of the locost racers who regulary have to sort this problem out unless they use stainless .

I also use the Peugeot 205 bushes like T.J. does. Not drilled them up, but used an normal M10 bolt. And that works well.
