my uncle needs spacers on the back axle to fill the the rear arches up a bit, so the question is the spacers we have that look ok the studs are to short, so can you get different nuts or change the studs, if so do the 1/2 shafts need to come out ?

Quite a good method is a kit that includes stud extenders and a plate that goes between wheel and drum. Using these means that you don't have to remove the old studs. Will give you approx 1.5" extra track per side.

I have 25mm spacers ,and long studs ( circa 2" fitted ,they come frome Rally Design , probably had to pull the 1/2 shafts out slightly to get them in.

Here is the only pic i can find. Sorry about the quality its a crop from a bigger photo. You can see the plate that goes over the stud extensions (like a thin shim) and then the wheel nuts attached to end of the stud extensions. They are good value and my local shop sells them. Can't find them on the web though.

ford focus/mondeo front studs pull in without having to slide the haftshafts out.. gives just under an inch extra length and they are about 60p each from ford.. got a load last week for mine and a friends dutton, he had a mk2 axle and fitted them in mins

Hi 1st never use stud extenders. Longer studs are available longest are 2" . The 2" ones will need the half shaft just poped out of the casing to get the studs in but the shorter long ones should just be able to sneak in . A said rally desighn sell spacer kits with studs in various sizes 1" spacer with the 2" studs are the max tho as that is the max that msa rules allow for spacers plus any more and your asking a lot from the half shaft bearing.

Totally agree with Procomp, stud extenders are a no-no, Burtons sell longer studs, they may be more difficult to fit but are much safer.
