Please can someone help? I would like an overview (the compete picture would be excellent) of what fits with what? I have a granada diff (as per sierra) and someone has given me some cosworth driveshafts.
Having been brought up on Mk1/2 escorts I have lost touch and would value an overview on what is compatible with what
* Diffs
* Driveshafts
* Disc based rear uprights

& any pitfalls to what out for!
All help most appreciated and apologies if this is the subject of an older post (just point me to it)

As a general rule all lsd diffs have bolt on driveshafts (i.e cosworth/xr4x4 etc) Choice of ratios - 3.92. 3.62

That leaves the push in spline type driveshafts for the non lsd diffs.

You'll also get 2 diff widths - 7 inch and 7.5

When you start getting into granada components then it can be a bit hit and miss as there are a few odities- some in driveshaft length etc.

As another general rule all sierra disc brake rear ends use the same disc/caliper apart from the 4x4 varients with vented rears which also have larger calipers.

You can get adapter brackets to allow you to mount calipers onto splined push-in driveshaft hubs if you so wish.

Infact you can use good old drums on the bolt on driveshafts that normaly run discs/calipers if you want as well!

Very small addition to the excellent breakdown above, the XR 4x4 had solid rear discs, so the calipers are the same as those on all the other disc rear sierras/granadas.

Very nice.

From where to where do you measure to see if you have a 7" or 7.5" diff (on a bolt on drive shaft type)

Woah talk about a ye-olde thread!

Measure accross the top mount of the diff(not the mount on the rear case). Just for your information though, the 7 or 7.5" actually refers to crownwheel diameter - as is the case generally when talking about how many inches your diff has! The matching top mount widths are a handy coincidence in the case of sierra diffs.

My diff has the following plate on it. Rivetted close to the input flange.

Took a photo, but it is massive and on the smaller file size you can see nothing.

Is this a 7.5" diff?

no bloomin idea but with 4.11 ratio its a rare one!!!

is that the sierra 1.3 diff ratio?? (yes they made a 1.3 pinto!! )

Did not see the donar, but the salesman told me it came out of a 3.0L Safire.

With this sort of ratio will it be good for a bike engined car or a V8?

A friendly man at the local ford dealer let me use his microfiche machine and I've managed to get all the part numbers, FINIS numbers, exploded diagrams etc for Sierra, Granada and Scorpios. I'm putting together everything I've found at www.super7thheaven.co.uk
