Some adjustable columns have a two piece downlink, one short and one longer with the rack coupling on the end.

I dont know what the length is but i think you are referring to the length of the intermediate shaft (has a UJ at the column end and a vibration damper at the rack end). I hope this helps with your description and resultant answers.

AFAIK the donor part is not long enough for a se7en. My donor bit was extended as part of the ZR kit.

Ive fitted an adjustable column and it looks good and works fine (not on road yet). I have heard of people having problems but no-one has been able to say for sure if this was down to using the adj column or the way it was fitted in a particular vehicle. There is a train of thought that says an adjustable lower mount is required. I havent fitted one and am quite convinced there is enough compliance in the std bush to allow for the adjustment. Of course my bush mount may be different to other peoples chassis.

In summary - i dont see why not unless anyone can prove otherwise with hard evidence.

Some people fit adjustable column but remove handle and bolt it up tight (ie lock it up so it doesnt adjust anymore).

Ref intermediate shaft length i was told that any Sierra ones can be used and they all need to be lengthened. Have you had a look at a workshop manual, there may be some pics of the different types.

i ask for a global measure ment...

and its not true not every one fits
only non powersteerings downlinks are good..

Calm down now,

the power steering ones are no good (spline too big)
heres a picture of my two piece one from an adjustable column before I cut it up( the shiney bit is where ive had it in the lathe to fit in the extension tube) Rescued attachment Dscn0728111.jpg

I have examples of all three at home - the power steering, the normal and the adjustable. Is it the normal unadjustable one you need the length of? specifically, do you want the overall length or distance between two points?

if you make a pic i know enough...

of all 3 in the same foto offcourse..

thanxs!

guys..

sometimes i feel hopeless
building a car here in spain is a great resposibility for me..(allot of money..)

and i even dunno if i get it "homologated.."

Cheers,

and thanxs for the help!

TKS,

There is no need to get so excited. Apologies for trying to help! You are however right, i meant to say i was told any of the non power steering intermediate shafts will fit.

Sorry again that i dont have the original size but if it helps my column came from a 1992 2.0 GLS non power steering, nonABS DOHC model Sierra. Adjustable column, single downlink, lengthened by Mac#1 motorsport and fits great.

my reaction was a bit over what was needed.. i know...

but sometimes.. i feel like no one is hearing me...

sorry...

my appoloizes..

here we go then:

overall length is actually ~415mm. centre to centre of the two mounting points is 390mm. the bottom rubber ring is 45mm from the bottom, and the top U/J is 80mm from the top.

thats for a non assisted non adjustable downlink. If you need the others, just ask. Its just a bit cold outside!
