escort rack mounts

Where do I get escort rack mounts from. If I buy the rubbers, can I make the saddle straps to hold it in place. Does anyone have a picture of the original I can use as a guide ? Cheers !

tiger sell them as a set - not particularly cheap though

If you don't mind breaking the bank, then Rally Design sell a nice pair of machined from billet alloy mounts which don't need the std rubbers at all.

IIRC you can get rubbers and clamps from Ford for not much money.

Alternatively use the ali rack mounts that dont need rubbers. Darren at GTS sells them £35/pair. And they are also available from people like Burtons (£45/pair)

Just checked the Tiger site - they want £16 plus vat.......

I may have a spare set of rubber bushes - will check tonight, no clamps though (unless the the sierra ARB clamps fit...)

Cheers

Someone posted that Mk3 Escort rack mounts are the same so they should still be available from Ford. I made some out of 30x3mm strip and wrapped a strip of inner tube round the rack, I've read about somewhere doing this and it holds really well. I also welded two pieces to the bracket for sideways location behind the rack. Rescued attachment rackmount1.jpg

Cheers guys, I'll be grateful Dave if you could do that.

I made mine. They cost me very little and in my opinion, came out quite nice. Have a look at my website. It is in the 11.19.04 update.

Alternatively, have a look at this website. Steve and I made our at the same time, though his results are much better than mine.

I have genuine ford ones, but they are quite sloppy.

I make my rack mount frame with a support for the right hand one only under the theory that if the right is supported, that would support the rack and therefore the left one would not need any additional bracing - WRONG

The rack moved upto 10mm under steering so I added another brace for the left frame mount to cure the problem Rescued attachment Steering Mount.jpg

Mark, I think the bracing idea is one of the best tips yet for chassis builders. We built two, the first failed its first MOT 12 months after SVA due to the rack mounts cracking 'cos of excess movement. Needless to say, number 2 is braced in a similar fashion to your own and has stood up to 6 months abuse so far. Number one has since been heavily braced too. The book chassis is VERY weak in this area!!

cheers Dave, sorry took a while to check the email, I've emailed you my address. That will be a great help. Will probably make my own mounts once I've seen the rubbers.

Avons tend to fail SVA too in standard trim
