My donor is a 2.0 DOHC 1992 (H) Sierra hatchback. I disposed of the old discs before seeing if they were vented or solid.
Q1 - Will they have been vented or solid?
Q2 - I still have the caliper carriers. Have just been offered 2nd hand calipers for solid disc - will they fit?
Q3 - Does the vented set-up offer any performance advantages over solid on a se7en? (Heat dissipation on heavier saloon car, does this matter on a
locost due to improved airflow etc).

Assuming you are talking about front brakes
1 - They will have been vented
2 - If they are Sierra calipers, I doubt very much that they will fit without some modifications
3 - Vented discs aren't really necessary on the front. Just adds weight

if you're talking about front discs they will be vented. Rear discs if fitted are are solid. I'm not sure about compatibility between
calipers though!

When ive priced up front calipers ive always been asked if they are vented or solid discs. Haynes manual suggest my donor will have been vented but i
guess there is also a solid version.
Im just hoping the difference is just for the thickness of the disc and that both calipers use the same carrier and that both vented and solid discs
have the same ID (same fitment onto hub).
I have a pic of the calipers and there is no handbrake mech so i know they are fronts. They came off a caterham (late 1990's De Dion Caterham

If they're off a Caterham they will be M14 calipers. Same as M16 calipers (from Cortina/Escort/Capri) but smaller pistons.
M16 are 54mm and M14 are 48mm. They are original equipment on Triumph Spitfire/Herald.
They would be ideal for a Locost but will not fit straight onto the Sierra uprights - they will fit Cortina uprights though.
m16 calipers can be spaced to suit a vented disc, as I'm doing this to use capri 2.8i vented discs, but don't if they could be made to fit a
sierra upright or whether it's worth the hassle.

These are interesting if they are for the Sierra uprights but im no expert so not sure. Ill take the pics home tonight and see if they look like the
Sierra calipers.
I dont like messing about with brake mountings etc when i may have my daughter in the car at times - that is certainly not worth the hassle. I was
just looking to try and lower the build costs ang these have had little use.
Was it you that said some people have scary wives - mine is a saint at present but wuld turn scary if i hurt Lorna through a build fault on the car -
it hurts just thinking about it.

the ones in your pic are def not sierra ones. all sierra front brakes i have seen are single piston sliding type calipers, those are twin piston
calipers and afaik all sierras are front vented, suggest cortina/escort style ford as previously said by Jag.

Some sierras def have solid front discs (possibly only 1.3 & 1.6's??).
I have priced up calipers in Halfords, stated car as 2.0 but got asked if they were vented or solid. I always thought 2.0 Sierras were vented as well
but this threw me a touch.
