Hi,
I need brake advice for my overweight locost (800kg). Most using in sprint /"hill climb" tracks - alot of braking.
Used 260 vented disc, street pads, sierra calipers - standart sierra setup. They hold for me, so temp wasnt so high (i gues), but dont brake well.
Winter going for mods
I already bought wilwood dynalites 4 pot, so have several ways to go.
Now i can choose - yes i want 280mm (i dont know why, maybe increase brake shoulder, decrease pressure for same brake force):
Vented 20mm 280 disc
Solid 10mm 280 dics - weight smaller than 260 so inertia similar.
dont want 260mm discs - maybe locost to heavy.
Pads for wilwood dynalites 4 pot 7112 (want fit under 100gbp):
EBC Yellow stuff? Wilwood BP-20 ; Mintex M1144; Mintex M1155; Wilwood PolyMatrix A; Wilwood Polymatrix E's (Poly-E's); ferodo DTC-30;
ferodo DS?; Hawk Brake DTC-30; PFC pf01; PFC pf05.
Better pads can hold higher temp, so solid disc will be ok?
My plan go for solid 280mm disc and yellow stuff

I cant advise on a brake setup, except use what you have, but with a servo
Also, if you are using the standard brakes from the donor vehicle then an 850kgs is a LOT lighter than the donor
and should work fine
What is your peddle setup, homemade or adapted from the original, as I ask as when I built my car the brakes were dreadful
and didn't inspire any confidence in stopping, my peddle box was home made, and I didn't have enough fulcrum/leverage point
once I sorted this, the brakes were incredible, infact too good!
but the first thing I would do is shed some weight

I would go 280 x 20mm with Hawk DTC-30. Best pads I've ever used sprinting and what I had on the Phoenix for many years using Midlites. Not a fan of EBC pads at all.
Pedals i made myself, arm/leverage ratio is good (it took me a while to find the right ratio), i have enough force to lock wheels, pedal is not a
rock.
Yes car is lighter than sierra, but i have experience with ford sierra - for competition we need put
280mm brakes and with yellow stuff - brakes osom.
I think my brake problem are most in pads, for my lighter car 260mm disc should be fully enough.
280 vented feels like overkill, but 280 solid may be too few? or 280 solid behave like 260 vented?

Another question, pads design? on 7112 find two types, looks like both fits

I have the cast Dynalites and the pads look like 'A'. In my case I use Mintex 1144 but I am about to experiment with Hawk DTC 30 as recommended above.
The best pads i ever had in my Wilwoods in the kitten were Ferodo DS1.11, outstanding cold to hot and the only ones i never smoked or had any fade
what so ever (285mm vented disc's).

Go for the lightest combination, small discs not even vented and quality pads, I run old stock ferodo DS11’s, never fade but they do boil the fluid
after a few laps, great for sprints.
Not a fan of EBC

I thought Dynalite were considered not suitable for cars as heavy as yours?
Although I may be thinking of powerlite...

haha sorry yes was powerlite I was thinking of, rally design state 750kg max vehicle weight.

Find local shop can get good price ferodo DS1.11, so i ordered them.
Just interested, why some people dont like EBC?

I did some research, DS1.11 they are good.
But Hawk TC-30 crazy better. Friction Coefficient can go over 0.6..... but price also... - jeffw where you buy them?
