Name that suspension bush!
bigandy - 27/10/04 at 12:57 PM

Afternoon all,

I was hoping that one of you experienced chaps out there might be able to tell me if the following "metalastic" suspension bush is a "book standard" bush and what car it might have originally appeared on. It is basically two metal sleeves with a rubber bit gluing them together

It's dimensions are:

ID= 12.81mm
OD = 27.03mm
Length of outer metal sleeve = 31.94mm
Length of inner sleeve= 34.98mm

If someone can identify what car this came off (A triumph of some sort perhaps?) I would be extremely grateful! Rescued attachment Image016.jpg

the book uses spitfire - but is that a spitfire bush? Like 27.03 is that the same as the book?

Hmm, so the book bushes are Triumph Spitfire then?

The dimensions I gave above are freshh from the digital calipers, so if the triumph bushes are slightly different (I guess they will be given in imperial, not metric) then they are probably the same bush..

Does anyone have a part number for the Spitfire bush?

Cheers for any help, it is much appreciated!

are you using these rubber bushes on the sylva mojo you're building? i would have though poly would give far superior handling, though that arguement has been done to death before

Ned.

I've used these rubber bushes in my Locost - the handling is still far superior to anything I've driven in the past!

Spot on!

I've already got half the bushes pressed in (standard metalastic ones as per the dimensions above). I'm looking to replace some of the bushes that the garage I entrusted the pressing in to, cocked a few of them up.

So i thought I could get some nice new poly bushes, or I could replace them with standard ones. In the end I've decided to go with standard metalastics for now (as I want to feel the difference later down the line).

The bushes from Sylva are 5squid (ish) each, so i wondered if they would be cheaper elsewhere, hence my quest to find out if they are standard parts off another car!

cheers

Andy

dont suppose there are any numbers on it are there as i could look them up for you, unfortunately the book i have does not give any dimensions so you need a part number to identify

I would say its spitfire / herald

regards

marc

Unfortunately there are no part numbers, Otherwise my first port of call would have been the local motor factors!

I think I better give a triumph specialist a bell, and see if they know what they are off, based on the dimensions.

Thanks for the help folks! If there are any other suggestions, then please let me know!

Cheers
ANdy

I might have some (unused) somewhere in my garage (poss 4 of). I bought them, then went down the poly route. I'll check tomorrow night.

Okay, I did a bit of reading last night, and it turns out that these bushes are bigger than the standard "book" bushes. The book ones seem to be a smaller OD where as these ones are 27mm nominal OD.

So that rules out all the spitfire bushes that I know of!

Any other suggestions?

cheers folks!
