RMD Steering Wheel Warning

We've had a lot of RMD Steering wheel failures reported on RHOCAR and so one of the members has done a bit of testing on them...

I have seen on youtube people doing slightly less scientific testing of steering wheels. Basically pulling on them and bending them all over the place.

If a Momo or OMP etc wheel was tested what would that show?

Of interest, unless the wheel is actually breaking during use, then one could argue having a softer metal and allowing the wheel to bend on impact is actually safer......Im not really sure what the conclusion is from this test, other than the alloy used is softer than thought.

The test was done as a result of at least 4 confirm reports on RHOCAR of the steering wheels breaking during use.

After all these failures, Al Milton decided not to use his and offered it up for testing

Ahhh...fair enough....So, the conclusion was the softness of the metal COULD cause the wheel to brake under normal use....

in that case, not good.

I'm no expert in any sense of the word...but I would say the softness of the metal allows it to bend easier thus inducing metal fatigue leading to cracks leading to breakage.....

Very interesting result. Ha been waiting to see the conclusion. Other than the 4 that broke in use I am pretty sure others have been removes due to cracks appearing.

RMD steering wheel snapped, it would seem to be a fault in the manufacturing process as each of the spokes are badly scored on both sides where the swede covering was cut off causing a weak point.
