Sierra M/C Leak
Daddylonglegs - 4/1/13 at 05:27 PM

Hi all. Managed to sort my leaking core plugs today, ran the car up to bleed the cooling system, then thought I may as well drive the car in and out of the garage a few times to get things free as she hasn't moved for some time. Went to use the brake pedal and it went straight to the floor! Glad I didn't decide to go out on the road!!

Checked all the usual cuplrits, and found the rear of the M/C was leaking. I have stripped it down and checked the bore which looks nice and clean/smooth, so I am guessing that I should be able to fit a seal repair kit and hopefully it will be OK.

I think the ones such as Ford Sierra 2.8 Brake Master Cylinder repair kit 1278 will fit. The numbers on the M/C are:

K0236 311809 Q30 and the number 22 in large digits.

Does anyone know the kit number I need and also has anyone had experience of fitting one?

Thanks guys.

JB

Often problems with master cylinders after a long period of no use
At £38 for a new cylinder off eBay I would go for a new one.
I've fitted seal kits before only to find that the cylinder was indeed s4gg3d

I'd say as long as the bore is fine and not pitted I'd say a seal kit will be fine, I did mine with no bother 10 k miles ago, however and doubt then go for a refurbed item.

Cheers

Btw I've heard new old stock on eBay having perished seals because they are old, best bet would be to prime with a bit of fluid before moving anything on on straight out of the box.

I put a new seal set in mine only to find all the guild on the look two days later. I am pretty sure it was the seals for the plastic reservoir that had gone, but having replaced them once already, I gave in and bought a new M/C.

The kits (if I am looking at the right one) are £18 so if I can get a MC for £38 then I may as well do that instead?

Problem is, I have no idea which variant of Sierra my MC was off and there seem to be loads of different types on eBay. Anyone got any ideas based on the picture I posted?

I'm afraid all I can add is that it's not the same as mine...

My one is the powder coated steel one.
