My car's donor was a Mk2 Escort so I had assumed it had an english rear axle, but I'm told its not it's probably a Koln.....

Can anyone confirm what type it is?

The little tag says it a 4.1 or 4.11 ratio I think, not easy to see after I've had a few beers.....

And if it is a Koln would it take 200bhp and the torque from a tuned Zetec? or would it just eat its gears for lunch?

Looks like an Atlas to me, probably from a Capri! If so, coulx very well handle over 200bhp.

nope, not an atlas, i say its a koln.
atlas and koln are very similar, but the length of the nose on the centre part is longer on an atlas, and the back over is a slightly different shape

here's the best picture i've got of my (very modified) atlas, but you can see the pinion, which was not modified, on mine is a lot shorter than on yours

My Capri axle doesn't have the filler plug on the front.

On an Atlas, the back plate bolt spacings are equal.

On a Koln, the top and bottom bolt spacings are unequal to the rest.

No body really likes the Koln axle because they are not very strong and parts are hard to get but I had one with a Quaiffe LSD in my 160 bhp Tiger and it was fine. Just run it...

Thanks peeps,

Looks like it is the Koln then

Anyone know what is a sensible level of power to put through one? I'm currently running a 137bhp Xflow and so far (touch wood) it has been fine.
