It looks like a Ford type 2 4speed to me.

my thinking was - the type 2 tail housing is a little different - and type E sometimes has an integral bellhousing.....

easy way to tell though - has it got a 1" 23 spline or a 7/8" 20 spline input shaft

Ill check the splines when Im home, which would be which?

This picture identifies it as a Type 2. Perhaps different tail housings were fitted over it's life?
