Simply can you weld to a Cortina upright, are they treated and if so how will this affect them?
I was planning to add a speedo sensor clamp, nothing massive. Here it is resting in place.
speedo mount
OK, i know i need to repaint those uprights.

Well it'd probably be Ok if done with dissimilar metal or mabe cast welding rods for what it's going to have to do but how about welding a bracket to the cycle wing stay just below it? It'll be mild steel so easy to weld & the upright doesnt get touched?
I'd be welding to the stay not the upright. Too risky IMO.
Even better to make a bracket and bolt on the stay bolt(s).

Would brazing work?
Cheers, I'll look into a wing stay bracket this evening, this seemed to simplest soloution, 2 welds and a tapped hole to pinch the sensor.
I'll post some other ideas up later.
ATB Dan.
Easy enough to make a braket that bolts on.
As said braze it on if your nervous. I wouldn't worry about welding it, but that's just me
Al.
It's likely to be an MOT failure if you weld it!

Tickles me that one.for mot no suspension component can be welded, yet on my kit and pretty much every other, every suspension component is welded together! Including my altered capri hubs.... Doesn't worry me
