What is the ideal tube to use for making up the brackets for holding up the mudguards. I hope to make a set that will not break David

Yes so did I, and they still broke, .
I used 20mm tube and found that it was the flattened section that the actual mudgaurd holding section was welded into that broke, so when I repaired them I strengthened that part by over welding them, seems to have worked, (so far). Cheers Ray

19mm round tube, I have found that its the flat bar that breaks where the weld id so make sure you use a decent gauge and also make sure it is inserted deep inside the tube prior to welding

We avoided using flat material with ours and made them totally from tubular material. It is mostly 3/4" tube and the sections over the wheels are 5/8" (which slides nicely into 3/4)

They turned out very rigid, pretty light and haven't showed any signs of distress yet. Even after being forced back into shape after being reversed into heavily at Snett last weekend!

I upgraded from the tube+flat to 1.25" x 0.25" flat bar for the whole stay. Absolutely no probs since then.

Mine is solid round bar, welded onto 2 inch wide 2mm thick flat. Definatly overkill, but I didn't want them falling off on route to sva!
