MakeEverything - 18/10/09 at 05:11 PM

Just thought id post to keep you updated!

I got these off ebay, and drove 2 1/2 hours each way to pick them up this morning. Fitted tham, and it drives soooo much better.

Since driving around for the last hour, i pulled into the garage, and the CV joint went again. On further inspection, all the bolts had undone themselves!!

Note to self; Dont be a complete cock next time i fit something to the car!

Looks like i didnt torque them up properly.

I know, the roof does look weird from this angle. It looks much better with the hard top, but it gets a bit warm inside!

The car is a UK ripoff of the american Mullen. I spoke to "Art" at mullen in the states, and he said that it was a copy of his cars that someone had tried, but i dont think there are too many made over here. I was told by the last owner that the one i have is a prototype.... ??...... but i bought it because i liked it!

So there it is. check out www.mullenmotorco.com and the roof suddenly makes sense.

The guy i bought them from didnt know what they were from, but on the caps it says "Super 7" and inside the caps they say "Caterham Cars"..... Probably not obvious enough......

They are 205/45/16" and are almost exactly the same diameter as the 185/65/14. The advantages of the additional thickness is instantly apparent.

Nice wheels! I think they look better than the one's you were looking at on the rush.

In the gallery, they fourth photo from the end shows a good shot of the roof.

She's gonna look good with some paint on

Red looks brill on that site.

Thanks Kermit! (That used to be my old CB handle!!)

Im not that keen on Red, as it would need to be better than perfect, and screams "I want to look like a ferrari" too much. I Think ive settled for the silver now, particularly as ive already got 5L of it!

Is you car not an Avelle GTA?

MakeEverything - 18/10/09 at 06:24 PM

nnnnnope.

Its registered as an "AGT Sports". Whatever one of them is.

The car i have is almost identical to the Mullen, and almost completely different to the Avelle GTA.

yep - the gta has a transverse lump behind you, not at all like your 'appreciating asset' of a renault lump and transaxle.

And there was I thinking you had a unique car Richard... looks like there are more versions out there than seven clones

Ian

p.s. CB handle used to be Crazy Harry

Ive been thinking about wiring my midland 42's into the kit, but i wouldne be able to hear anything!!

Since we last spoke, the Zetec engine fell through as the guy i bought it from was a cock, but ive since found someone local that is a renault turbo enthusiast that has spares etc....

So i will give the renault a fair crack of the whip, but if it cant get anywhere near the 200 target, then it will need to be changed.
It might be that it needs to be a 2.0l 12V Turbo to do that, but we'll see.

Ive picked up my spare UN1 transmission this week, so ive got more spares than i have space at the moment! - Still need to get rid of the oversized crossflow yet!

Wheels make a lot of difference to the look mate.

Very nice

Looks like they fill the rear arches a treat now too. Still a bit gutted that you didnt like the 'C I D' look of the steels that i gave you

Those alloys were definately worth the trip today me thinks

Have you considered a nice v6 - should be plenty of room...

Laguna 3.0 v6 is supposed to shove out 210bhp

I think so too, especially as i used the hire car to get there and back!!

The rear track is really wide now, and the wheels are just inside the arches.

The CID Rat Rod look was ok, and if the wheels had been wider i might have kept 'em!

I have been playing with ideas, but ill mess around with the renault engine (Square 1 again!!) until it goes bang.
