URGENT - is propshaft ok?
02GF74 - 16/8/09 at 10:49 AM

Photo below shows how much the propshaft end has moved out of the gearbox - presumably the shiny part was inside past the seal.

The distance between the gearbox end and the flange is 20 mm.

I cannot see or feel any splines.

Is this ok? i.e. there is no chance of the propshaft coming out?

Not sure what the propshaft is, presumably modified mk2 escort but 'box is 4 speed Ford. Chassis is formula27 plan built.

Note: car is jacked up on driver's side so obviously that will have caused suspension and the propshaft to move - not sure without much thinking which way the prop would move, presumably outwards.

Looks good to me as it does not move much anyway.

The important point, which can't be seen without dismantling, is the length of the coupling within the tail shaft housing.

looks like there still is a fair bit left inside. Rescued attachment prop.jpg

I mrecon you are OK. Mines a 4 speed box with the same prop and I may well have very slightly more exposed from the box. Done 150 miles so far with no probs driving with one and two up.
