Does anyone know:-
If the front diff from a 4x4 Sierra is the same ratio as the back one? I know it sounds obvious that they would be, but the way that the drive is
taken off by chain / gears it could be a diff diff ratio?
If so were they all 3.62?
Which way round does the input flange turn to make the wheels go forwards?
Does the front diff work as a stand alone diff without the oil from the sump? I assume there would be a seal between the two.
Can you support the cross shaft that runs through the sump with another bearing?
If you were stupid enough to try to use the 4x4 Sierra front hubs on a 7, you'd have to relocate the front coil overs. I'm also guessing
you'd need custom length driveshafts.

i have been thinking for a long time about turning my b-type dutton into a 2.0 XR4x4's Sierra running gear.but was told it was not worth doing as it would not work.i even went and got the 2.0 XR4x4's Sierra, then scraped it once i was told it would not work.
Liam's is the best Locost 4x4 I've seen. Few pics in his archive.
Think this one shows it pretty well though!
Front susp 2
HTH,
James
Others have done it without inboard suspension though, they just off-set the shock backwards from the centreline of the wishbone.
Presumably beefing the wishbone up somewhat to compensate for the twisting forces upon it.
Cheers,
James
why dont you have a look at pauls as you know him and he's close!
Hi Tom
Spending 1,000 miles blatting with Paul was the inspiration....
Cheers

if you need any 4x4 bits i have a 4x4 gearbox and front diff, front sump etc all the bits apart from the engine, prop and rear driveline
Thanks Al

You can change the step off gears in the centre diff. Ford motorsport did it to allow different size front diffs to be fitted. A 7" or even 7 1/2" 3.92 and other ratios were fitted. Not cheap.

Quite a few different ratios. Not sure how many small diff ones there are. 3.92 and 3.62 are standard. 3.16 turbo technics ?

Yes its sealed, but the cross shaft is also part of the seal

Yes. Andy Gallacher did it with his focus
