Steering Extension
Daddylonglegs - 28/5/09 at 05:11 PM

I have sourced what I think I need to connect the sierra column (adjustable) to the mk2 escort rack. Apparently it is around 3" long. Does this sound correct? I know it needs the triangle clamp at one end but not sure about the other.

I also have a surplus escort steering column which I intend to use to connect the extension to the escort steering rack coupling.

Apparently that's what this has got, it's just that I thought that it was much longer than 3"?

i,m trying to work out how you are setting the column up,
on mine at the rack end is a (think its called Group 4 coupling) then i have bought a shaft from RD that has a spline at either end, this then gets cut in half approx & welded to the part that has the triangulated coupling which then attaches to the triangle shaft up into the column shroud, thats how i think it all goes together more or less, i have the parts but have not made it to size yet.

3' maybe? as in 3ft?

my luego velocity is looking like it is going to need an extension about 13" long - sierra column to escort II rack.

I don't know if this is any help to you?

I'm not sure what to think. I seem to remember seeing a photo of a coupling on here somewhere that looked quite short. Maybe it's just a UJ type coupling that he is selling? I'll see if he can send a picture of it and then I'll post it on here. My intention was to fit the joint to the column and then use the escort steering column shaft I have spare as the extension piece between it and the joint connected to the steering rack shaft.

Thoughts please?

I think you want something like these - the length will obviouslydepend on your installation

Not a very good picture but I'm wondering if this is what he is selling?

I've asked for a photo but not holding my breath.

That looks like the UJ from a KA steering column. If so it's no good to you since it doesn't use the triangular shaft.
