Axle Breather
Daddylonglegs - 6/1/09 at 12:39 PM

I have a 52" live axle (Atlas or English - still not sure which ).

Somehow, in the move from the barn where it was stored to the garage I have managed to knock the breather off!

It looks like it is a push fit into the casing. My question is, can I get a replacement, or do I need to buy something like a Landrover one and tap the hole to suit?

Cheers.

This has been asked for before and I don't recall anyone able to find a source for them - other than taking off another axle.

I fitted one from a Series Landrover - it is a little bit smaller but a bit of araldite cured that.

Part number 3 here should do you, its a 3/8 unf screw in plastic job, but should easily modify to push in.

Yep, this is the one I'm using. It's 52" flange to flange.

looks english to me
is it definitely off a ford? (i think there's some other type that look the same)

if its off a ford, its an english

Yup. I was told it was off a ford. Actually picked up 2, one 48" (Escort) and this one, but haven't got the Escort one now.

So I think it's safe to say it's an English then.

Chose this one because of the extra 4" width but causing me a headache in trying to design the front bones to cater for the extra width!

Trying to keep the same ratio of length to spacing between bushes to maintain the same bending load on braking, but it's making the mount points about 3" further apart. Damn nightmare

well, it definitely looks like an english (100,000% definitely not an atlas) but there are a few other types that look identical to the english, but aren't. someone on here had one in a racing car chassis, i forget what it was from though. austin or something

edit:
Tegwin, ask him what his was from. here's his in the yellow car. looks VERY similar.

Knowing my luck it's probably a one-of from a prototype space shuttle or something!
