fuel tank cap
hmm just ordered a fuel tank. But would the tank cap pass the SVA since doesn't it have to lock?

I am sure the fuel cap does not have to lock,but you will need a restrictor in the neck just below the fuel cap,for the sva

oh yeah, damn forgot about that, for the unleaded petrol spout thing. Thanks I'll check that out. Maybe I can make something.

is the for the pump nozzle? thought that only mattered if you engine is running on unleaded, mine wasn't tested with the pretend nozzle.

Hang on, I'm forgetting that my car runs on any grade not just unleaded. Would it need a restrictor?

Iam not sure about that,no doubt someone will be along soon,to put us right,I know they checked mine at sva,but mine was cat tested

It depends also on the vintage of the engine. If you've got an old engine which doesn't need a CAT it doesn't matter how big or
small the tank inlet is
Yet another reason for having an old engine for SVA purposes!!
In the book of SVA, chapter 15.2 part 1b the lord SVA doth say
"On vehicles that require a "Catalyst Test" (see Section 18m page 2), check that the fule tank cannot be filled directly from a
petrol pump nozzle having an external diameter of 23.6mm or more.
NOTE: In order to comply as far as practicable a device fitted to reduce the diameter of the fuel filler tube must be fitted as near to the top of the
filler tube as possible, allowing for the filler cap to seal correctly".
And so it was. Amen.

Just to confirm you don't need a lock. The wording says it must be secure, which in the context of the SVA manual means something along the
lines of 'mustn't feel like it could fall off when tester touches it'

As above, needs restrictor but does not need lock.
It seem's a bit stupid in this day and age were leaded fuel is almost impossible to get now anyway, and the reason for the restrictor is so that
(in theory) you couldn't put leaded fuel in an unleaded cat equiped car and nack the cat. so why do we still need restrictors?
It doesn't stop the plumbs sticking diesel in the tank either!
