Harness Bolts/Mounts

Hi all, After having to buy some 7/16 taps to clean the threads of powdercoat, I found this is as far as the bolts screw in. Theyre not the 2" ones or anything so theyre not bottoming out. I think thats just as much thread as there is.

Question is, is it an SVA fail? I can certainly see how it could be argued the threaded portion of the bolt would snap rather than be supported by the shoulder.

Thoughts/opinons?

TIA

How about a washer?

You can't leave it like that - but nipped up on a few washers it will be fine.

I'm having to do that on mine - to make sure they line up properly.

Yeh - I think washers are the solution - bit of a PITA though.

Theres no way Im going to drill further to retap it deeper cos the drill is sure to wander and wreck the existing threads.

Thanks

Rich

I agree that would look better but not really great when the chassis and bolts are from the same supplier.

8.8 grade are going to be a giggle to cut anyway

A thread should engage for a minimum of 1.5times its length IIRC. Just chop a couple of mm off the end of the bolt. they will be fine, and the SVA man wont bat an eyelid.

8.8 grade bolts cut easy

Er whats wrong with washers? No cutting or messing around?

They look neat as well? - if you wanted you could even paint them so they blend in?

Very 'destructive' bunch of people you lot are - hacking things to pieces isn't the only option

I don't think the washers will be a problem, but those mounts look a little 'spindly'. Are they braced in any way?

No theyre not braced but were only talking 1.5" or so, the camera was on macro so they look really tall.

LOL @ RazMan - at least you honest

I must say they are addictive! I got a great deal from Wickes

A drill, jigsaw and angle grinder for £40.00

I've hacked plenty of things with the angle grinder
