Scimitar engine recommendations
OK, so one day I actually intend getting on with my Scimitar. For some reason I sold the Lexus engine and box I had and was going to mate something to
the Mazda RX8 box I had (yes, some little shite nicked it off my driveway!) so am looking for suggestions.
My current fave is the Jag 3l V6/manual box from S type Jag. Same size (displ.) as Essex V6 just not an antiquated boat anchor.
Cheers

Got a mate who has two, one is a 5a and had a stock Essex and is now being converted to a 3.0l jag v6, the other is a 6 and that has an omega 3.2
v6.
Have a look at the thread on here where Bigwassa (I think) is looking into getting the Mondeo v6 (pretty much the same engine as the jag) running on
OEM ecu.
BMW 2.8 straight 6 with close to 200hp would be nice and cheap if it will fit, red gearbox but rear diff ratios may need some thought, some bmw have
Some strange ratios, same goes for the jag v6.
The Mazda 2.5 kv6 would be nice with an mx5 box, a few of those around but getting rarer.

well I'd keep in mind the continuing rise in fuel before choosing an engine, you don't want to be in the situation of not wanting to run
the car due to how much it costs...

The price of fuel isn’t really a consideration with a “toy” is it. My tintop does sub 24mpg and I don’t care as it only did <3000 last year, I do
have other cars.
I do like the idea of the Aj30 / Duratec 30. And am working on one at the moment.
Fantastic sound.
I doubt you need more power or torque.
They can be very cheap. Subject to packaging it.
Other engines I could fancy in a scimitar,
Jag Aj16s. 4.0 m90 blower 320bhp.

Is that a Pug diesel with a Rover gearbox?
Could well be a good choice!
We used to have a 306 HDI with a 2.0 diesel engine. Whilst it didn't set the world alight with raw power it ticked along perfectly and drank
lightly too.

if you don't want to mess about with relocating the steering rack the length of the engine will be very important - the old essex V6 sits
behind it and quite low too

So a V engine is the way forward then.

so long as you also watch the size of the heads to avoid having to mod the bulkhead/firewall too much (if that bothers you of course)

The engine I'd really like is the 2.7 diesel from the Jag but these cars seem to hold their value so will prob go for the 3l V6.
Not too worried about original steering rack as I've grafted Mazda RX8 subframes on the front and back

So you've got RX8 running gear? And you're not worried about fuel economy? So why not go for an RX8 motor?
If good they're a cracking engine and surely it'll be the first one in a Scim?

That's what I thought about my Landy... then I sold it cos it was way to expensive to use and would spend 99% of is time in the garage
while I was still paying insurance and road tax for it...fuel used to be a non issue but those days are long gone.

Got the whole RX8 for £300 but as usual engine was knackered. But most of the interior, all running gear, airbags!!!, abs etc all going in scim
eventually 🤣
Well, that's the plan

I used the AJ30 with the Getrag box, loving it
I hadn't given the fuel costs much thought, it is a toy after all! But I went for a "cruise" yesterday, put £10 worth of petrol
in.
Checked the level after (I use a dip stick) and had used just over half in 32 miles, so around 35 mpg?
By comparison the S-Type would have done about 25 mpg for the same run.
The standing costs, Tax and insurance, are just over £8 a week. Good value I think

Yeah pug engine from a 306/405/806 with the gearbox from an LDV Pilot. Cheap to buy, cheap to tune, cheap to run The HDI is a great engine too

As I thought
I've had a 306 HDI myself and it was a good car and engine - plenty of them around too, so you're right they'll not be expensive
engines to get hold of. LDV Pilot vans I'm not so sure of, don't see many about down my way in Hampshire (doesn't mean
they're not out there though).
