Brake Fluid Level Light
Evening,
I know this has been covered many times over, but I cannot seem to find the answer I require.
So I understand for IVA, that there needs to be a method to check the bulb in the brake warning system (usually the handbrake being on).. As I'm
using a ETB Digi Dash 2, the bulbs flash on when you power it up, so is that enough of a check to show the bulb is working, or does it need an actual
switch.
I would use the handbrake anyway, but it doesn't have anywhere for a switch!

It's my understanding that you have to be able to check the bulb at anytime - but I'm not sure you're method won't do that!
I'd ring ETB or the Testing Station you intend to use and see what they say

Hi
This is what we used , we do have a switch on our handbrake so
our switch iluminates when the handbrake is on, if the fluid level
gets low or when you press the switch (to test)
IVA man did check it & was happy.

The wording is fairly ambigous:
18.
Where a warning lamp is provided as the only means of checking the fluid level without opening the reservoir, it must be secure, operational, visible
during daylight and darkness from the driving position, and fitted with a “test facility” that enables its operation to be checked from the driving
position without opening the reservoir.
It would certainly be down to the invidual tester as to whether or not this could satisfied by the dashes own check sequence. As above, a call to your
test station would be the best option.

Thanks for the information guys.
As mentioned, the wording is what had me thinking... Technically it can be checked at anytime by turning the ignition off and on again.
I'll have to call the test centre!

Sorry for the huge delay is updating this..
The reply from VOSA is as follows:
"The required standard for point 18 would be met if the lamp illuminated then extinguished when the ignition is switched on."
So looks like a handbrake light isn't required if the dash does this..
Also worth noting that help from VOSA is excellent. I emailed them late Friday afternoon and received a reply on Monday morning around 8.30am!
