Advice Please

Following on from my recent thread http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/forum/4/viewthread.php?tid=153353 (which was in the wrong topic really ), here is another shot of the car showing the light height slightly better:

Lights-2
Lights-2

Does anyone think the lights will be cause for concern (i.e. 'obstruct the driver's view'?

Thanks.

JB

Off topic I would remove the fly screen, Its another opportunity for a fail. T he lights do look a little higher than many other sevens

Need a view from inside the car. Either way it's subjective so really depends on the tester.

Most seven type cars have a piece of oval tubing or flat bar that sits on top of the top chassis rail.
Cheers Eric.

Here's where mine are - and they're 7" dia headlamps (early photo, taken ages ago)

I'd be tempted to drop them if easy to do. And, as above, remove the aero screen - I failed SVA on the aero screen on my Fury (and other things) and passed without it.

Regards

Wyn

Here's another early shot of mine (2004!). You can clearly see the level of the headlamps - the base of each lens is a good bit above the SVA minimum (same for IVA, I believe).

Thanks for all the input guys

I decided to drop the lights down, a little worried about them hitting the front wings though, so I took all the poundage off the front springs so I got maximum bump then tried left and right lock to see how much clearance I had. Eventually dropped thm by around 3" so a major difference! I was right on the limit of the 400mm maximum in from the widest part of the car so it was a struggle, but then I took another look at the rear wings. They are way too wide and the wheels looked lost in them, but I already have 25mm spacers so do not really want to go any wider, so I decided to lop 2" off them The difference is quite amazing, They look a lot more suited to the car and I now know that the lights will definitely be within the 400mm

All this meant I didn't get to panel the tunnel as I had planned but hey ho, at least the lights should be OK now.

And regarding the screen, it will be coming off for the test

Thanks again for the help guys

JB

Thinking about it,Caterham don't seem to have a problem with the lights obscuring the driver's view -

Love the lateral thinking... The lights are too far from the widest part of the car...hmm... I know, I'll narrow the car!

Both dropping the lights and altering the wings willimprove the look. Have you checked the "angles of visability" for the lights?

I've got some more piccies of the finished article. Big improvement in my eyes, looks less like a frightened frog!

Also, looking at the Caterham above, I think the lights and bar I got off eBay are from one of them, I also had the indicators which fitted underneath the headlights, but I took them off as I didn't like them.
