Got my age related plate

As per title really.

Just had a phone call from the very nice lady at Notts DVLA and she has just told me I will be getting an age related plate, which is good news cos it now means the wife can buy me the personal plate she promised me.

During the conversation she did say it had taken a lot of phone calls to their policy people and faxes of the photos etc that I had provided. She nearly didnt take the photos ay the inspection but I said I feel happier that she take them. Good job really as these were the persuading factor.

What she also said was that she would not be issuing an age related plate in the future if there wasnt a current log book i.e. if you have scrapped the car and surrendered the log book she will issue a Q plate without hesitation.

Moral of this post DONT SCRAP THE CAR. Have someone take the shell away by all means but keep the log book and dont declare it as scrap.

Which year age related ?

I would see a pre 1972 age related plate as a bit of a result.

Hi Bob,

A pre 72 age related plate doesn't automatically make it tax exempt, it's got to be listed as historic on the new V5, which as a kit car probably won't be.

Marcus

Because kits are for girls!!

You are soooo right there paul. But I am happy now.

I deliberately did that 3 years ago when my shell went to the great metal plant in the sky.

Still got the log book, number plates and chassis numbers (i cut out so no one could ring it).

How do you guys get on with disposing of a shell without surrenduring the V5 as well?

Where do you actually get rid of the car minus the parts worth keeping? Are the scrappies interested, particularly if the VIN is missing?

I did pay a bloke £15 a few years ago to take an Escort and a Sierra off my hands with no VIN plates but he struck me as a bit shady. I wonder where he dumped them????!!! Mind you, if I still had his phone number....

I kept my log book - SORN'd it, the vin plate and number plates.

I then cut up the remains into 'handleable' size chunks, took them in the trailer to the local scrap metal merchants - weighed it all in, glass and all.

Got £9.60 for it - wow!

OK guys quick update Just got back from collecting my paperwork from Notts Because of a mix up i ended up collecting it.

Imagine my surprise when I looked at the plate certificate and tax disc, to check they matched, to discover I have been issued an 09 plate

I think as far as kitcar registrations at DVLA are concerned - this is about as near as you can get to a lottery win !!

Amazing - and as far as private plates are concerned - you are not restricted to a year ...

Think twice before chucking an 09 plate away, though !

Posting a photo showing the grinning owner with his newly finished and registered kit (optionally lit up with the flash from a Gatso ) is MANDATORY on this forum.

Come on, vindi andy.
