Phoenix fettling

The Phoenix is currently at Fury sportscars getting a bunch of work done. This includes a replacement roll hoop to meet the new MSA regs, blade ARB and sort out splitters/diffusers/

Part 2 will include changing the clutch/pedals, the parts have started to arrive

That's a big hole at the back to fill in, I can see why you were not looking forward to that.

What's the venting above the NSR for?

The vents are for the exhaust which runs up over the axle and exits at the rear of the car. The panel that was cut out will be going back, which is why someone else cut it out !

It's looking good. I was going to ask when it might be finished, but realise that they are never finished. ... just growing and evolving

I was over the other day and seen the work that had gone into making the platforms.. Looks a cracking job.

Are you able to drop the tank out the bottom should the need arise?

Some nice mods going on there.
I`ll be interested to see how your splitter and diffuser are done as I`d like to add both to my Phoenix.
Are you having a diffuser custom made or buying one ?

Once they are done I'll post some pictures. It isn't very complicated

Cheers buddy. I`ll look forward to them. I`m currently exploring which diffuser to buy as I don`t have a sheet metal folder so need to find the best size for the car, the carbon ones are nice but a bit pricey for me.

Mines a bit of 5mm ply, work in process

Raising the bonnet could be an issue, I have placed the hinges below the nose cone to allow it to lift without crashing into the ground, I,m also reducing the the size of the grill hole.

https://picasaweb.google.com/102680160261680183167/FuryRebodyOfLocostChassis#6248611432723671634

Needs shaping and blending in.

This looks more straight forward to make and a sheet of ply is usually 8 feet by 4 feet so wider shouldn`t be a problem.
Great info about air flow around the front wheels hadn`t realised this could cause lift.
I`m hoping to make my bonnet lift off but haven`t thought out a strong enough way to mount such a heavy bonnet yet on 4 pins. could mount the brake ducts off the splitter so they stay in situ but I`m worried if I mount the bonnet wrong it could crack.
Anyone seen this done before.

This is how they will both end up, no gap between the nose cone and splitter to let the air out, I am hoping this will force the front down as the canards are part of the whole front now and be directed past the wheels.

I really need to treat the rear in the same fashion but this is taking longer than expected so running out of time to my first sprint of the year.

Mine has had the rear arches flared similar to how you are doing yours. I want to sort front splitter and diffuser and my aero will be sorted.
Hope this link works as I`m a technophobe when it comes to posting pics. if not copy and paste should work.

Looks very nice. Are you competing in this at MSA events? If so I don't think your cage is compliant with the regs.

So yes it's an MSA event.

In which case you might want to look at the Blue Book again regarding ROPS unless the one you have has been homologated by the MSA.

Thanks for putting the pic up. The picture is when the previous owner had it. He used it for hillclimbs in Scotland. so I`m not sure Ken if where you mentioned is in Scotland.
It has an MSA logbook but I presume as you say Jeff with the new regs the rollbar is no longer compliant. I use it for trackdays so it won`t matter to me. I`m sure its still safe as houses and no doubt some desk jockey dreamt up a new roll bar spec. on the back of a single accident somewhere in the world.

Just googled Fintray and yes no doubt you are right as the car came from near Forfar. Well spotted.

Anyway I`m at risk of hijacking this thread so back to you jeff and yes please post pics of your splitter and diffuser when they are done. thanks.
