The Phoenix is currently at Fury sportscars getting a bunch of work done. This includes a replacement roll hoop to meet the new MSA regs, blade ARB
and sort out splitters/diffusers/
Part 2 will include changing the clutch/pedals, the parts have started to arrive
[Edited on 5/2/16 by jeffw]
That's a big hole at the back to fill in, I can see why you were not looking forward to that.
What's the venting above the NSR for?
The vents are for the exhaust which runs up over the axle and exits at the rear of the car. The panel that was cut out will be going back, which is why someone else cut it out !
Shouldnt that be Phoenix phoetling?
It's looking good. I was going to ask when it might be finished, but realise that they are never finished. ... just growing and evolving

I was over the other day and seen the work that had gone into making the platforms.. Looks a cracking job.
Are you able to drop the tank out the bottom should the need arise?
Yes. the tank will be removable now as well.
Blade ARB all connected up
Some nice mods going on there.
I`ll be interested to see how your splitter and diffuser are done as I`d like to add both to my Phoenix.
Are you having a diffuser custom made or buying one ?
Once they are done I'll post some pictures. It isn't very complicated

Mines a bit of 5mm ply, work in process

Raising the bonnet could be an issue, I have placed the hinges below the nose cone to allow it to lift without crashing into the ground, I,m also
reducing the the size of the grill hole.

Needs shaping and blending in.

This is how they will both end up, no gap between the nose cone and splitter to let the air out, I am hoping this will force the front down as the
canards are part of the whole front now and be directed past the wheels.

I really need to treat the rear in the same fashion but this is taking longer than expected so running out of time to my first sprint of the year.

Looks very nice. Are you competing in this at MSA events? If so I don't think your cage is compliant with the regs.
[Edited on 7/2/16 by jeffw]
I would guess, thats just after Combine @ Fintray
So yes it's an MSA event.
In which case you might want to look at the Blue Book again regarding ROPS unless the one you have has been homologated by the MSA.

Hi, where I can buy the blade ARB and will it fit also on Fury chassis, that is different from Phoenix one? Is it adjustable from the cockpit and dedicated to a specific stiffness set of springs?
jeffw - 8/2/16 at 01:07 PMIt can be made to fit a Fury (Adi and others have done just that) and it can be made to be cockpit adjustable (again this is something that Adi has done).
You can get them infrequently from US ebay as they are from Indycar single seaters (in my case a Dallara part).

Thanks a lot
jeffw - 9/2/16 at 11:18 AMFlywheel has arrived
HowardB - 9/2/16 at 11:23 AMmmmmm shiny!
Is there enough weight left in that?
jeffw - 9/2/16 at 11:33 AMdefine 'enough'
Easily pick it up with one hand. 3.5Kg
jeffw - 9/2/16 at 11:37 AMOther side

Mine is very similar but for a Duratec and a lardy 4kg
jeffw - 11/2/16 at 08:16 PMI suspect you are "slightly" more than 1/2 Kg lighter than me Pete so you win on that one.

lol, that's a very good answer...ever thought of going into Politics! I am, however, a stone heavier than I was a few years ago...that's all the fault of going to the gym too often and not just too many pies so its not a bad thing as such
jeffw - 17/2/16 at 11:06 AMnew Roll Hoop tacked together. This will meet MSA requirements now.

What is different between new and old. I`d heard there was change but just not sure what. certainly looks strong.
jeffw - 17/2/16 at 09:39 PMThe old roll-hoop was 38mm with very short front stays. This is not allowed in MSA competition now so the new hoop complies with that requirement as it is 45mm with back stays.

Do the back stays have to be 45mm?
jeffw - 18/2/16 at 11:17 AMYes, according to my reading of the regs. Mind you better to be safe than sorry so we took a strict interpretation.

Cars pre 1995 can have 38mm main hoops.
jeffw - 26/3/16 at 08:31 PMBut not front stays....

You've said this to me before but I've just looked in S 10.1 and can't see any such exception. Can you point me at this exception in the 2016 Blue Book?
lsdweb - 26/3/16 at 09:07 PMSection K 1.4.1 Jeff. I'm on my phone so can't copy the text - sorry.
38mm allowed for all pats of cages prior to 1995.
jeffw - 26/3/16 at 09:14 PMMinimum Dimensions (Ø in mm)
a) Mandatory tubular members
45 x 2.5 (1.75” x 0.095”) or 50 x 2.0 (2.0” x 0.083”).
38 x 2.5 (1.5” x 0.095”) or 40 x 2.0 (1.6” x 0.083”).
(For roll cages/bars approved prior to 1.1.95).
b)Optional tubular members
38 x 2.5 (1.5” x 0.095”) or 40 x 2.0 (1.6” x 0.083”)
I'd check with the MSA as I read that as ROPS that have been approved prior to 1995 are allowed i.e MSA homologated not vehicles prior to 1995. If your ROPS is not MSA certified it will not be allowed to be 38mm.
Exceptions
The only exceptions to the foregoing requirements for
Saloon, single seater and Sports Cars are as follows:
1.5.1. ROPS manufacturers may make application to
the MSA for a Roll Over Protection System (ROPS)
Certificate to be issued.
Note: ROPS manufacturers wishing to make application
for such a certificate should contact the MSA Technical
Department in order to obtain details of the
requirements to be met and the fees payable. Subject
to these requirements being met a ROPS Certificate
will be raised and issued. Duly authorised copies of this
certificate containing a drawing, photographs, a copy
of the manufacturers declaration that the ROPS meets
the required regulations should be available to event
Scrutineers.
1.5.2. Each ROPS manufactured after 1.1.97 for which
the MSA or the FIA has issued a ROPS (Rollcage)
Certificate must bear an identification plate which details
the manufacturer and the manufacturer’s part number
allocated to the cage. Details of this identity plate
