I don't know if that's such a good idea my self........I mean what if the wind is coming from the direction you want to go in?

Mook, I can tell you're not a sailor!

You just tack across the road!

According to the owner of the boat, that is when it made it fastest speeds, going into the wind. Unlike a sail boat that has to zig zag and this one of the claimed benefits of the system. I have seen model wind turbine boats and they make good progress and certainly don't get blown backwards as most folk would expect.

The way to think of it is look at the blades themselves, there not flat against the wind but angled just like a sail would be getting pushed at 90 degs to the wind, exactly when their most efficient. On top of that the boats front profile is lowest, hence the higher speed

I actually thought you had a point there for a minute - however I think that unless you are in the Australian outback (no other traffic on the road) then tacking is a fairly hazardous manouvre as you may be forced into violating lane discipline
