Safe Radius on Steering Arms
The Baron - 20/1/07 at 07:54 PM

I have had to extend my steering rack by using some 19mm hex bar. My question is; If i put some heat shink over the extensions, will I be ok for the SVA as long as I pass the 2mm radius, Is this correct?

I unserstand that the SVA git! is getting a bit fussy about people using pipe lagging!!!

Cheers,

the Baron

your title is about steering arms then you go and talk about tack rods and extensions.

re: track rods - I cable-tied split convoluted tubing. (see below; SVA man ok with it)

re: steering arms - the standard ones on cortina will fail - you need to get a grinder/file to put a radius on them.

the top edge is the problem, as here:

grinder and file puts on the radius (where the paint is gone is the part you attack!), here:
steering arms edges smoothed

I don't get it....

You're not allowed to weld steering components for safety, but the SVA man will make you take a grinder to them just in case your Granny might ladder her tights on a sharp edge when you run her down....!

Thats barking !
