Pre SVA pics
chockymonster - 17/12/06 at 12:21 AM

My vortx is pretty much finished, the job list is left with sorting the speedohealer wiring and tidying up the front indicator wiring as I don't think Mr SVA man will like how I've got it at the moment.

I'm not happy with the wiring for the ECU etc at the moment but I can't do much about it without a major reorganisation that I just don't have time for.

Any comments or suggestion would be great, fresh eyes will pick up things I can't see!

Fuel hose is Hozelock tricofuel.
I've got spec sheets for it and every other piece of hose used in the build.

Cheers on the balljoint, I hadn't thought of that one.

Reflectors are in the SVA box so I can put them exactly where the SVA man wants them.

Are you calling it kermit?

Caber

chockymonster - 17/12/06 at 01:03 AM

SVA is on Tuesday at 8am!
The weather forecast is currently Snow/Scattered showers!!!

Looks like I need to get some more self amalgamating tape then!

Caber, no it's not called Kermit My wife has called it several things, but definitely not kermit!

quite a few things on front end mate

head light botton thread
all the big nuts by the wishbones

all your nuts on your steering rack that I can see

TimC - 17/12/06 at 07:38 AM

at the very least I'd put a breather filter on the outlet at the top of the gearbox; better still a pipe to catch tank.

Steering rack extension nuts!

What's the best thing to cover them with?
I've got an old bike inner tube that I kept for some bizzare reason but I don't think it would take the sharp edge away enough

whitestu - 17/12/06 at 09:43 AM

I used rubber cable gland covers and split steeling for my steering rack extension. The gland covers are about 50p each from any electrical wholesaler. B&Q also do then with the gland for a couple of quid.

dont forget the rear upper harness radius's

are your front indicators on metal 'stalks' projecting across the front bones area? this is like a dax rush? not sure about the correct height but if so then this covers all radius's in the front bones area... possibly - anyone know any different...?

if you need to cover any of the bones area - i used pipe lagging covered in leather -looks neat and bits of rubber hose over nuts (the cars!) held on with cable ties

is you fuel filler casting radiussed?

just my opinion and ideas, hth

bob - 17/12/06 at 09:46 AM

I used those electrical rubber/PVC glands that feed into junction boxes for the rack extensions, but if you cant get any heater hose will do the job even if you split it and put a couple of cable ties onwith locking points at the rear.

bob - 17/12/06 at 09:49 AM

ended up with the front well covered for retest, and indicators extended. Rescued attachment MK Indy build pics 168.jpg

I would get those cables covered up as said before. Try to get things as neat as possible and nice and secure. Half the battle with the SVA is giving a good overall impression. The bloke who did mine said that if they start to fill out the failure sheet with one or two easily seen items they tend to go looking harder to get every fault...good overall car with a couple of small issues they will help to get it thru. Even if you just put the wiring in some of that plastic tube and neatly cable tie it, makes it look like you've taken care with things.

omega 24 v6 - 17/12/06 at 10:08 AM

Nice build mate and I like the colour. Are the headlights hella?? if so do you happen to have the part no or catalogue number. Sorry for the thread hijack and I hope the sva goes well.

mandbsheldon - 17/12/06 at 10:09 AM

Not much help, I know, but that 3rd pic looks like a grass hopper

Is the rear fog light vertical ?

Picture is a bit deceptive.

test is at 8am on tuesday!
Although things are looking a bit iffy. My gear change cable snapped this morning
Fortunately MNR have pulled one out of the bag and can get it to me tomorrow!
I thought the same about the indicator bars but I don't want the examiner to thing I'm taking the mickey!

zetec - 17/12/06 at 12:20 PM

Dax use the front indicstor bar as a false floor level. When I asked the SVA people they said that they were going to apply a rule to this that the component must be able to take a 17KG load or it would too easily break on impact and be of no help...

Well that's no issue then!
The bars are about 14mm metal tubing and can't be bent!

Howlor - 17/12/06 at 05:18 PM

Battery terminal covers?

locoboy - 17/12/06 at 06:26 PM

It looks like a fair gap between the top face of the front upright to the lowere face of the rod end that forms the end of your front upper suspension arm.

Will the bolt running through the rod end be able to take the latteral forces placed on it?

erm, buggered if I know. It's a fairly hefty bit of bolt.

Agriv8 - 17/12/06 at 11:36 PM

had a few bevvies so excuse the typing.

if the front indicator stalkes are classed as a front bumper ( they should be all other sva centers have classed them as ) dax showed MNR the light

the up and over rule tends to apply ( what snoppy said ) the sva tester will take his dome device and anyhing that is above the bumper he will try and get his dome to connect against personaly looking at the pics you will be OK but no promises PS good luck

will have a good look trought the piks early tomorow as laptop has been offline most of the weekend.

regards

Agriv8

zxrlocost - 17/12/06 at 11:51 PM

you should also be prepared for everything

If id have listened to everyones view on the SVA and what they were let fo with etc etc Id have left half the stuff on the offchance

The fact is MY SVA chap was an absolute
@@@@ they are looking to fail your car
youll want to whack him

there government officials

so imagine the worst bullied saddo at school out to get his own back

the best part is is this :
(you know you have a smart built car like I did !)

so there looking over your car at things tutting and nodding there head but wont tell you what at

just cover all your nuts on the front with anything neat Ie an inner tub slashed down the middle wrapped round then use two neat cable ties to hold in place

Peteff - 18/12/06 at 12:34 AM

Where did you go? The tester who did mine at Derby in 2000 was a diamond geyser, he explained everything he was doing and gave me time out when a hose clip came undone. He told me at the end I had failed as the lights had no rear reflectors then fetched a set and stuck them on the rear for me and told me to post some replacements to the depot.

zxrlocost - 18/12/06 at 10:53 AM

shrewsbury

all Im saying is be prepared

Bob C - 18/12/06 at 02:02 PM

I must say all the people I dealt with at Oldham (today and in October) were very friendly accomodating and helpful. They are there to apply the rules & they mostly make sense. I guess anyone can be having a bad day though!
cheers
Bob

They're not all bad.

The guy who did mine at Edmonton was great. Good attitude and really helpful. He liked the car and genuinely wanted to help me pass.
