Guinness - 3/11/05 at 10:21 AM

I passed my re-test this morning. Arrived at Gosforth at 08.00 this morning and by 09.15 I had my MAC.

Whoooooooo hoooooooooo.

Off to DVLA to start registering it this afternoon.

Cheers and biig thanks to Chris_R and Jambojeef for the help working through my fail sheet.

Thanks also to all the other members on this site. Its such an inspiration to see photos of completed cars, get good advice from other builders and have a laugh!

Thanks

Mike

Major bummer. Went to DVLA Gosforth, handed in paper work. Arranged appointment with them to inspect it for 11.00am tomorrow.

BUT, they will only inspect at their offices, home visits are one week in every 6-8 weeks.

AND, they won't let me drive it there. Has to be trailered as it's not taxed.

Managed to hire a trailer for tomorrow, but I don't have a tow bar.

Well done mate, if in doubt hire a car with tow hook

Bummer, as you say. Obviously every DVLA office must be different because when I contacted the Maidstone DVLA they told me to phone up when I had my SVA date to arrange to go to DVLA in the afternoon - no mention of trailering it.

In the event, I had my SVA on a Tuesday and DVLA the next day, and they came out of the office to look at it in the car park. I think they didn't care as long as I could show the insurance and the MAC.

Anyway, enjoy your car once it is fully registered

Thats just pure awkwardness

I passed the SVA in Exeter at about 11:30, drive directly to the DVLA office (Barrie Sharpe showing the way and Robinbastd rearguard!), within 90 minutes, had my tax disc and reg number, phoned ahead for the plates to be made up, 2 hour drive home, and 4 hour drive around afterwards, the car had 200 miles on it within 7 hours of passing!

robinbastd - 3/11/05 at 11:06 PM

And I still haven't been in it.

keith2lp - 4/11/05 at 07:52 AM

Hi

I think all offices are different. I have my inspection at Portsmouth today and have been told that I have to drive it as they do not accept trailers.

They have sent me an appointment card that states that I am allowed to drive there and that the car does not have a reg number.

I am going to have to rectify that!!

I will have to bring up a few goodies with me, chromed roll bar etc

DarrenW - 4/11/05 at 11:07 AM

Thats just pure Sh1t Mike! How is it that people get away with running around in cars that have just run out until they get to the post office? Yes it i sillegal but at least they have every intent etc etc etc.

Ref inspection, as you know Stockton did mine ages ago at home within 2 weeks of me enquiring. They did say however that after SVA i would have had to take it to them as it was road worthy. How come you van drive to SVA without road tax? If you drive to DVLA with all papaerwork and cheque for road tax surely common sense should prevail. I think they are taking the wee out of you. It sounds like they have given you the jobsworth answer, i wonder what would happen if you just drove there anyway???

After i pass SVA i only need to drop of fthe docs as inspection is completed so ill do that in tin top. The only bugger at Stockton is that they did say the wont do a while you wait service, but they will post out in that nights post.

Did you take a copy of the MAC?

Let us know how you get on please.

Guinness - 4/11/05 at 01:07 PM

Then

Now I'm waiting........................

Long story this morning. Drove to Morpeth, swapped cars with Jambojeef, drove back to Newcastle, hired trailer, drove home, loaded trailer with Indy, drove to DVLA. Joined queue.

They came outside to see the car, I took the bonnet off, they wrote down the chassis number, the engine number, asked me the engine capacity, I put the bonnet back on. Total time elapsed 3 minutes. No checking the axles looked Sierra ish, no looking for other VIN numbers I might have covered up. Nowt.

Back indoors, take the money for 1st reg and 1 years tax. Thanks, you'll get a J-plate, the docs and tax disc will go out in the post, once the manager has checked all the paperwork.

So with a bit of luck we might be on the road by the middle of next week!!!

Just got to take the trailer back this afternoon and the Scorp back to Geoff tonight.

If they back date the tax disc to start on 1st November, I'm gonna go mad with them.

Anyway, good things come to those who wait.............

We wait
We wait

Guinness

Cheers

Mike

i was led to believe from Stockton that checking the paperwork over deosnt take too long and they should get it in the same nights post. I was considering offering to collect mine the next day (impatient or what!).

I think your tax will defo be started from 1st November as they are issued monthly, unless you were able to set your start date.

Well done anyway, shouldnt be long now. At least you have passed the SVA. You can have a celibratory drink tonight. Im having one for you (any excuse!).

Did you take a copy of the MAC?
