Almost ready for SVA
jonbeedle - 13/9/05 at 01:17 AM

Just thought I'd post a photo of progress so far! I'll be booking my SVA test soon! Until then I'll have to be content with blasting up and down my drive!

Cheers
Jon

LIKE THE ALI !!!!!!!!!!!

Petemate - 13/9/05 at 08:19 AM

Hi Jon
That car looks fantasic. Best of luck with the SVA. One small point - as well as rear fogs, reverse lights also have to be vertical. IIRC, there is a leeway of a few degrees, but check 'em - small temporary plinths may be needed.

I was wondering about those screens - I know that some are labelled "SVA friendly", but it may be safer to take them off and put some blanking plugs in the holes.

You can always wear your helmet to the test!

Looking good. Hope you get your SVA soon

jonbeedle - 13/9/05 at 08:43 PM

Cheers guys. I had already planned to ditch the screens and change the mirrors for the test as I knew they weren't SVA friendly. I might change the reverse lights or remove them completely for the test aswell.
Thanks for the positive comments and the encouragement. I have to say it does look better in the photo, the ally isn't that great and the grp has some of my dodgy repairs and needs painting but I like the 'utility' vibe of the car and am not too bothered about it looking pretty, I just want to have fun with it!
Cheers
Jon

Really nice job.And an authentic looking Locost. Where did you get screens?
Alex

looks spot on to me!!

Very nice job indeed!! (and it's rare that I say that!)

Love the ally finish, so much nicer than GRP!

PS, did you make the bonnet? If not, is it a caterham one?

No, the bonnet is home made. It's all made from scrap, second hand bits from Ebay and whatever I could nick from work, apart from the chassis which is made by A.S Motorsport which I bought second hand off Ebay purely because it was cheap, it was powder coated, it came with a box of assorted bits and it was better than the one I was trying to make!
The car is built in the true low cost spirit and believe me it looks it! The photo makes it look better than it is! Nevertheless I'm chuffed with it and I like it to look functional rather than a work of art as I already have one posh car with all mod cons!
Thanks for your kind words and encouragement. Hope to see you on the road soon.
Cheers
Jon

That's your old engine in there!

Where you hoping to get it tested Jon? Got mine tested in Norwich , very helpful tester , think his name was Derek. Break a leg?

jonbeedle - 15/9/05 at 12:31 AM

Norwich sounds good. I'll bear that in mind when the time comes. A few more bits to fiddle about with yet though, then I have to do the pre-SVA photo posting ritual so that all you guys can offer your hints and tips!
Cheers

Hi again Jon
Norwich seems to be a good centre. One of my fellow club members took his Hood there, and when it came to the self-centering, he said "not many of these type of cars self centre that well. What I'm looking for is that it takes less effort to straighten it out than to steer it...." Now THAT's what I call a decent bloke.
Wish there were more centres like that (although for obvious reasons, I'm not complaining about Leighton Buzzard!!)
