Pre SVA check - Have I covered everything?
Mark Allanson - 29/5/05 at 06:50 PM

Title says it all really. I have uploaded a few shots of the car in a sub folder of my archive.

Please spot the deliberate mistakes before the SVA tester does

Are your front flexi brake pipes OK, do they catch anything on either Lock?????

Ray

David Jenkins - 29/5/05 at 07:11 PM

That looks very tidy, Mark!

The only thing that doesn't look right is the flexi brake pipe in the RHF view - it looks as though it's touching the tyre. It's probably a trick of the camera angle, but it's something to check. Turn the wheel full-lock each way and make sure that (a) the pipe doesn't touch or rub anything, and (b) it isn't stretched so much that it bends next to the fitting.

Apart from that - nothing obvious stands out!

Good luck,
David

Looks very smooth to me mark,an excelent pre SVA example.

If it goes through on radius without a prob we should use the pics as a benchmark.

theconrodkid - 29/5/05 at 08:13 PM

the front wing stays look a little close to the tyres is my only comment, apart from that looks good and good luck

Mark Allanson - 29/5/05 at 08:25 PM

My flexies clear everything nicely, the wing stays get no closer that 10mm (is that OK?). I need to get some sort of cover for the seatbelt upper attachments. The foglamp switch is the original sierra one, the symbol is the correct one, but is not illuminated, but there is a LED telltale about 2mm away from it. Rescued attachment Belt top mounts.JPG

Hi m8, i can see 1 thing from your last pic that you will be picked up on and that you need to put covers on your seat belt harness bolts as thats wot he made me do best of luck

Peteff - 29/5/05 at 10:32 PM

Put some clear mastic in the front indicator screw heads, it's the only unradiused edge left for them to pick up where the plastic is recessed for them.

Great looking car Mark!

I was pulled up on a sharp edge on the mirror mount (my screen wasn't fitted at the time

Consequently, you might want to have a look at these areas:

They look familiar but are they more than 400mm in from the edge of the car?Remember the rs is wider.I fell over on this at sva.Good luck.

TPG - 30/5/05 at 08:41 AM

Oh.Rear reflectors.........Just seen them in the lights.

How noisy is the car, if it's close to the limit, point those tailpipes out horizontally, you get far less reverberation if they point to the open air.
Good looking car, by the way.

Marcus

At 4000 rpm, you can still talk and be heard so I don't expect my dB's will be a problem. Thats due to the Passat rear box I am using

Hornet - 30/5/05 at 03:26 PM

Good luck Mark.... my SVA is Friday...
With regards to your photo's, the brake nut looks like it has sharp edges.... might be better to cover just in case... my cars like a marsh mallow just now.. if i hit someone, i'll sufficate them

Mark Allanson - 30/5/05 at 06:00 PM

What on earth do you use to cover brake nuts? This is starting to get silly!

My date is a week after yours

billy - 30/5/05 at 07:58 PM

Mark, i think it may help to let him find a few real obvious things to let him pick up on, hopefully he wont did too deep. also he looks out for unsuported wiring. cheers

Hi Mark
That's one smart car you have there. I now want to tip my Robin Hood over a cliff....
Your build typifies what I have said all along; that you Locost boys do a fantastic job. Even starting with pre-built chassis, the standard of builds is very high. I've met a few on a local meet, and wish I'd have gone down this route. Well done & good luck for the SVA.

Looking good mark.nut covers on the top of the seatbelt fixings. The brake nuts look ok if the dome they use cannot reach them!. they like neat and tidy. have you got a boot box in yet?
Hows you self centreing and brakes? the others stuff is a easy fix.
we'll have a good look next thurs night.
have you got last minute nerves yet.
Barrie

have you got last minute nerves yet?.....

Just a bit

I have made a list of the last minute things....it's going to be a long weekend this week!

I am buying stuff to make modifications, steering rack gaitors for the mirrors, covers for the seat belts, a few more wiring tie backs........

Nervous?, Yes, confident? I dearn't

Jon Bradbury - 1/6/05 at 08:39 AM

Where did you get those mirrors from? They look fab.

Car builders solutions, I think they are Suzuki GXR mirrors, but it looks like they will not go through SVA without a touch of temporary modification. On the upside, I have complete rear vision without any blindspots.

zetec - 2/6/05 at 09:31 PM

Excellent job, well done and good luck.

Mark , the mirrors look the same as the ones that I used, had to make a small adaptor to fit them to my screen pillars , tester just run his hands around them to test edges . Passed them without comment so yours should be O.K.
