SVA Pass!!!!!
albertz - 11/5/05 at 09:18 PM

Just arrived back from my SVA test in Aberdeen without a MAC certificate......but only because it is in Inverness DVLA office getting registered

Passed this morning.

Arrived at test centre at 7.20am (misjudged the morning traffic!), changed electrical connections on dip and main beam. Waited until 8.10 for inspector to come over and tell me where to go. He told me to leave the car and go and get breakfast from the nearby burger van and wait in the (appropriately named) waiting room, he then closed the roller doors so we couldn't see what was happening.

About 10.30am he came through to say he was going for his tea and that the car had a few minor things needing sorted. After his break i had to press the brake while he checked for leaks, then he did the sound test.

After that he quickly ran through the few things requiring attention, commented on how well the car was built and looked and left us to fix it. The guy was an absolute topper, he couldn't have been more helpful.

The fail points were:

1) Indicators needed moved forward (as highlighted by someone on here already, and i had replacement brackets with me.)

2). Fog light tell-tale light not working (just the terminal had slipped off the back)

3) No self centering on the steering

All in all i was quite happy...to say the least.

We fixed the problems and were loaded, tied down and away by 1.30pm, with the certificate in hand.

As i touched on above, the tester was a top guy. To give you an example, he asked me about registering then proceeded (unpropmted) to complete the built up vehicle report (economical with the truth to ensure an age related plate), phoned the Inverness DVLA and faxed the report and MAC cert to them...what more can you possibly ask?

The technical details which some may be interested in (especially Paul AKA 907)

Sound test recorded 97db - Pass
speedo speed at 35mph true speed 34mph
at speedo 40mph, actual 39
at speedo 50mph, actual 49
at speedo 60 mph, actual 59
at speedo 70 mph, actual 69

Car weight, without driver 582Kg.

I called into the local DVLA on the way home and registered the car, completed all the paperwork, bought 6 months tax and now all i have to do is get the insurance cert and send it to them and they will send the tax disc for my age related plate..........what a day

I would just like to say a big thank-you to the countless people on this site who i have never met who have helped out through this build, with advice, tools, parts and encouragement. Cheers!

Ya beauty

Excellent! Good to hear... I too will be using the same test center in the future... hopefully with the same results. Im Interested to hear how you got on with the 4Age... I'm in the process of getting one for mine.

Jonr - 11/5/05 at 09:58 PM

Good on ya!! Again great to hear that the Aberdeen test centre is understanding and reasonable.

What is it about the north of Scotland and 4 AGE, I'm thinking of one too!!

Mark Allanson - 11/5/05 at 09:59 PM

Just hope I can say the same thing in a few days - Bloody well done

Any chance I can see some shots of your engine bay?

albertz - 11/5/05 at 10:05 PM

Mark, i'll get some photos sorted showing the engine bay, not the cleverest, but obviously acceptable. I have no doubts you will be fine. It is NOT as bad as you may think, make a reasonable effort to comply and they will help you - that sounds very patronising, but i mean it genuinely, based on my experiences anyway.

I am off to bed, sleepless nights the last few have finally caught up with me.....zzzz

Well done fella!

Another SVA pass for model car tyres covering the bottom of shocks! Perhaps I should start selling them on Ebay?

If anyone needs any, let me know.
