Hi I just pulled my sons 1999 Pug MI16 306 out of one of my lockups intending to sprint race it at curborough this year class regs demand road legal
and there are only 14 of these on the road its immaculate so service and mot will be no problem BUT it was last taxed in 2007 that's when it went
in lockup BUT he NEVER SORNED IT HE HAS v5 BUT NOT v5c i don't want him to get a big fine even though he deserves it because I would have to pay
cos it's my project ( Im a poor pensioner)
Any advice at all would be more than welcome please!!!!!!!!!!!
How has he avoided getting fines in the post for no tax for the last 11 years?

Hi guys
thanks for quick reply it is registered in his name to clarify ( my bad with 5 5c business) he has old colour log book he taxed it in 2006/2007 then
got bored and stuck it in my lockup we got no communication from DVLA he lived with me at time now own house we have 12 cars on road between us all
legal and about the same projects in my yard sad!!!!!!!! seems to have been forgotten by dvla but still listed on doc gov web site as last taxed 2008
which is odd because tax disc on screen is 2007??????
I can't remember the dates (about 2011, I think?), but I'm guessing that predates the 'mandatory' SORN requirements, and if I
remember correctly, anything that was already SORN before it became mandatory to be either insured or SORN could be left that way and it didn't
matter?
If he taxes it now, he should be OK, I think (no fine or anything), but then he will need to insure it to get the tax, and make fresh SORN
declarations in future if it is ever left uninsured.
Think its a slim chance youd be fined if you insist it has been off road it used it on the road.
It obviously since sorn was invented, so it looks more like their error for nor sending tax/sorn reminder
thanks guys that was what we were hoping it seems to always be a lottery dealing with DVLA when you haven't got a brand new bog standard corsa because i think a lot of things are a matter of opinion god help us!!!!!!!!!!!!
So are you asking if you should risk driving it to the track with no tax?
If you are I wouldn't, as if you get pulled you are liable for the back tax to when you last taxed the car,or when you bought it!

NOOOO coskev would never do that the choices as i see it MOT tax and insure it and run in road car class perfeck but if that is going to involve a big
fine
then two choices run in a different class and trailer it but only 50% of running available during year hardly worth the effort or put it back in
garage lock the door and forget about it The reason for my asking the question is if i try to tax or sorn it now i was worried we might stir the
waters and finish up with a big fine anyway not good
No you'll be fine.
They never came out and said untaxed cars needed to be SORN'ed when the brought it in compulsory.
If it changed ownership then they would send the new owner a letter saying tax or SORN.
Is it a S16?as they didn't make a Mi16 306
Thanks coskev I think I will mot then and will tax will have everything crossed !!!!!!!!!!!! Interestingly we have a 205 with S16 in it that's a tight fit no rubber in the engine mountings master cyl sits in cam cover just a couple of thou clearance engine dyno'd over 300HP .The 306 is MI16 it has racing history was converted to road car by the guy we bought it off its trimmed out 2seater with four point roll cage DTA stand alone ecu both same colour pure chance would be nice to to go to events etc.
Nice.
Great cars,had the Rallye version.
Get some pics when you drag it out
Will do you can tell we like them too I will celebrate by taking some pictures when I get it roaded i've got a load of pics of 205 ill put them up tomorrow thanks again for your help

Yes that's right when I go to shows with the boys ( they grew up from primary age toddling in my workshop) we go round all the classics playing cars dad has owned!!!! The thing that saddens me most is the ones that haven't been preserved. When did you last see a Daf 55 marathon coupe????????

It's depressing isn't it? I was working out the other day how many years I could knock of my mortgage if I'd kept some of the cars I've had and sold them all today!
