Hi all,
Like some others on the forum, I am waiting for an IVA date.
Just looking / thinking about some aspects of my build and wonder
what the forum thinks about where the steering column goes through
the bulkhead into the engine bay.
column_bulkhead
Anyone thing this is a fail, and if so why?
Many thanks.
I used a section of c.v. joint boot for the column to come through.
I'm taking the attitude at the moment, if I think it could be a fail, even if I don't know why, do something to make it look better.
Thanks .
Can't think why that would fail. But you'll have a fair draft blowing over your legs, so it's probably worth covering at some point. I wouldn't stress over it though.
I,d make a card template that fits snugly over the hole, transfer to a neat bit of Ali trim to make pretty then rivit in place
If anything catches fire or a hose bursts I would not want it blowning back over my legs.
Car looks great
Thanks Mark. That is exactly what I am thinking of doing.
Small nuts and and bolts though. It can be removed
as and when required that way.
Mine looks like this, and no eyebrows were raised.

Hole in bulkhead
Thanks Paul.
I used some boot edge TRIM around the hole. I had to put some V cuts in so it
didn't distort too much around the tight radius. I have a fairly tall hole as the column is height adjustable and this has reduced the amount of
draft coming through. IVA might have an issue if they thought it could let too much engine bay fumes through.

Thanks Adi,
I like the look of you solution.
To implement it would require some careful work or column removal.
Mark, thanks for your comments. Bonnet shut line is my worst part of the car.
Once it has a few 'scars' I will have a go at improving it.
