IVA Wing Mirrors
davidimurray - 28/6/11 at 10:02 PM

Can anyone reccomend me any wing mirrors that would be suitable for IVA ?

I've seen these http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ViewItem&item=300571100196&ssPageName=ADME:B:WNAFP:GB:1123 on ebay - has anyone used them succesfully?

Cheers

Dave

Clearly states they are IVA ok, so whats the query?

I was wondering if anyone had used them and how they had found and also if there were any better reccomendations out there. Although the advert says IVA approved you wouldn't have any comeback if they didn't pass - I've had parts from some of the 'big' parts supplier sold as IVA ok and on checking them I have found that they are not - once bitten twice shy!

I understand you may be talking about the glass size, however at 6"x4" it's bound to be ok, but I thought I'd mention again for all those reading that exterior mirrors are exempt from the exterior projections test at IVA.

Section 16: Exterior Projections, Page 120/282 "The assessment will not apply to exterior mirrors"

Plenty of examiners pick people up on this but it's another case where they should read the book thoroughly first.

Hi
They look almost identical to the ones I use on the Furore F1 for IVA, have successfully passed twice recently with these, they may not be identical as my mirror heads measure more like 3 .25 x 5", but the tester raves about them, & believe me the Furore does not lend itself well to the rear view test, effectively being single seater positioning.
I can do a set to a fellow locoster for £13.95 + £3.95 P & P if that helps. I have them from stock.

Can you be more specific on the exact location in Section 16?
I have IVA version:6.01 09/05/2011 running from pages 131 to141 and can't find the "The assessment will not apply to exterior mirrors" part.

Its Section 16, Exterior Projections, on the 2nd page, under method of inspection. Top of that page.

Ah! Got it. Thanks for that

Russ

Do you have any pics of the mirrors you could post? I can't seem to find them on your webshop and your ebay link doesn't seem to work.

Cheers

Dave

That is true however, section 8 Indirect vision states 7. All mirrors must have an acceptable approval marking or have equivalent characteristics to a mirror approved for use on a vehicle of the same category as follows:

•The reflective surface must be encased in a protective housing

•surfaces contactable by a 165mm sphere (interior) or a 100mm sphere (exterior) must have a radius of curvature of at least 2.5mm – except fixing holes or recesses less than 12mm wide, which must be blunted.

I always thought they were exempt how ever I was browsing the manual last night and noticed this.

Image attached, sorry haven't had a chance to get them on the website or ebay as yet & thanks for pointing out that the ebay link is way out of date! I will update it.

I should point out the picture is taken of the mirrors as they come out of the box, the mirror head should be rotated 180 degrees to the head for the correct orientation, they'd look a bit strange when fitted otherwise!

Thanks Russ - you have a PM

Dickyboy - 30/6/11 at 03:30 PM

I passed the IVA with these, or ones remarkably similar, only bitch was one had M8 LH thread, with no nuts(?) provided. They are good and don't vibrate too badly.

russbost - 2/7/11 at 06:21 PM

I can assure you mine both have 10mm thread!

I don't know why you are worrying about it, 40inches? By the time you are ready for IVA, everybody will be getting around in "Star Wars" type speedsters

I'll have you know that it is nearly ready for IVA, sort of, almost, very close, possibly.
