DVLA common sense alert!
stevegough - 6/2/11 at 11:09 AM

Ok, here's a good one for you...

Filled in my application paperwork for registration, collected reciepts and took them to preston DVLA, groaned when I saw the segregation sytem and queues.... queued for 10 mins, and got to the 'checking paperwork' desk.
Guy behind the counter says - we only have 2 people who deal with these, just give me what you've brought, and leave them with us.

Groan again.

Went away feeling a bit defeated by the system....

That was last Tuesday....

Got a letter yesterday (sat) which said...

Dear blah,

Luego kit conversion.

Thank you for submitting your application to register a vehicle to this office. All the paperwork appears to be in order, and the vehicle will not be required for inspection. Post us your payment of £260 and bobs your auntie.

Yours sincerely blah

So - what do you make of that?

I'll be there tomorrow! Will it be a K or a Q ?

Sounds good. I think a lot of registrations go through with not a lot of hassle; Mine did. It's just when people do have a problem, it turns into a bit of a nightmare and we hear more ab out it.

At a guess I think you'll end up with K... or a Q...

Nice one mate. I think I was lucky with mine, called in at the DVLA on my way back from the IVA test and got them to check my car straight away, got my Q plate 2 hours after passing the IVA

Hope the weather gets better for you next week.

Happy driving.

Question - how do you get number plates made up? - Don't you need to produce the V5 document?

David Jenkins - 6/2/11 at 11:41 AM

They give you a "cover note" that you can take to the plate makers...

Is it £260 to register a car now? That's a bit steep, I think it was only £38 when I did mine in 2006.

No, £55 registration fee and £205 is 1 year's road tax.

That's presumably first registraton fee plus road tax

Ok. all sorted - age related plate - partly thanks to Rusty Nuts and Kenton.

First drive pics - even took the wife!

Nice one! I can't believe that steering wheel hasn't shrunk yet. Be carefull while you get used to it and the weather is cold/damp.

Macbeast - 10/2/11 at 05:40 PM

She looks nice. ( The car does too )

Thanks, Adithorp - the timely advice is also heeded - I don't want to be mending it yet.

By the way - you know what you were saying about the wheel? It seems to have fallen off now!

Thanks for that Macbeast - you put a wry smile on her face, I can tell you!
