Under scuttle wiring

Is this tidy enough for the IVA ?

It's all covered by the scuttle.

Looks pretty good..

However I would be concerned about those connection blocks... if water pools on the alloy tray you are going to have some issues!!

What the eye cant see!!

hmmm, can't say that appeals to my eye, maybe it is the transparent spiral wrap - black looks better IMO.

Also the terminal block, hmmmm, not sure I like those - is there not possiblilty of screws coming lose?

I would replace by a spade junction box, something like this:


aslo in the centre there appears ot be one ofthose twist type connectors ARRGGHHHHH!H!H!H!!!!!! is all i# can say to that.

I think without too much effort that can be rerouted and tidied up.

not a keep fan of fuses/relays dangling in mid air either..

Definitely go for something other than choc-bloc. Those things corrode quicker than a corroding thing in really corrosive stuff!!

You WILL get issues in a relatively short time I'll gaurantee it (unless I'm wrong or you're lucky )

Thanks for comments. Not happy with the choc blocs myself. Where do I find spade junction block - VWP, according to the picture ?

The twist connector is as supplied by Pemier Wiring loom. There are no dangling fuses / relays - the white blocks are multi-pin connectors for washer pump etc.

Looks messy which can set of alarm bells for the tester if he sees it.

I'd avoid putting relays that way up if I could. Any water that gets in there is going to fill them up as there's no seal in then.

Keeping your wiring tidy especially car wiring is very difficult, I install phone systems where you have hundreds of wires in a junction box and I struggled.
Never seen a screw on a choc block vibrate loose, they can corrode but if its inside your scuttle cant see it being a problem. Personally I would trust a choc block far more than a spade crimped with anything other than a proper ratchet crimper.
Rerouting and shortening some of the cables would improve looks no end but for a first effort its not that shabby.

Thanks Split. I used to wire broadcast equipment but never managed to do a very neat job. I've ordered the multi-spade boocks as half the wiring on the choc blocks is paralleling them up. I have a decent crimper and usually reinforce with solder.

Its a difficult one. Yeah its not the tidiest but it will do the job and as you say behind the scuttle, all enclosed... Tester won't see it so you'll prob get away with it. Really dislike that twist connector stuff. I think it looks like a mess.... As its under scuttle, take that off and wrap it in a cloth tape.

hi, i personal do not like the transparent spiral wrap, i like self loom tape finish, but i does not change the fact off the wiring, but i would get rid off the connectors, ok for boiler wiring, but i would be shocked to see them in a production car, and when i had my sva that is what the inspector said take a production car standards and flow that or aim higher.

but if it is under the scuttle my tester made me take the carpet off which i had under neither the scuttle so he could check it all.

and maybe change the normal nuts to nyloc nuts on the earths

apart from that is looks good.
