Afternoon all
quick question, I have a standard legal size number plate on the front of the Indy. It's 111mm high and 500 odd mm long. It goes past the edges
of the nose cone and I'd like to fit one slightly shorter. Is there more than one legal size number plate with a single line of text as
I've seen plenty of photos on here where the front plate doesn'r appear to be as long and if so were can I get them as everyone like
Halfords etc states that there is now only 1 size.
Any info or help appreciated as always.
Number plate production is controlled now, but I use craigsplates.com on tinterweb
Got mine from here, and it's 3" x 9". Not strictly legal but no problems so
far. The 'broken' full size one is stuffed down behind the passenger seat in case I ever get pulled.
Ed.
There is no specific size that a number plate has to be. The only specification is that there must be a gap between the edge of the letters and the edge of the plate. IIRC it is 11mm but I can check for you on thursday if you like when I go back to work.
BSAU 145d defines what you can do.
http://www.craigsplates.co.uk is the best site. If you select "road legal" then it keeps you on
the straight and narrow.
Just because its the law doesn't mean anyone follows it though!

worth a quick read.
you can get "show" plates from lots of places on the net, just search.i know mine is not strictly legal, but it doesn't look out of
place, and there's no fancy,if thats what you call it,font,i've been past the tax camera afew times without a pull so the old plods
camera's must be able to read it.i think you only run into problems if you take the mick.measure your cone, and weigh up a size that looks in
proportion to the car if your prepared to risk it.
Ps,not sure on the postcode of the plate manufactures that have to be there now by law, cause i guarantee most older cars dont have it.

I bought a front plate with a GB sign on the LH end. I then cut the GB sign off and trimmed the perimeter a little. This makes a useful saving in
plate size whilst only bending the rules slightly.

they do have to be a certain size, just get a stick on one.
You can get away with subtly trimmed down plates. to be honest i think the cops wont bother you unless its really small...
