Driving to IVA

Im sure i read somewhere that you could drive a car, pre IVA to places to have work done (MOT station etc) and to the IVA test but i cant find where i read it. Was it just me?

Pretty sure its post IVA, not pre. You can then drive with a pre-arranged appointment to have remedial work carried out (with suitable insurance of course)

you can definitely drive to IVA. I believe theres some confusion pre-IVA with MOTs and even if it isn't legal you'll definitely get away with it.

Post IVA you can't drive the car without it being road registered by the DVLA. Hence why some members have been booked for driving to their DVLA inspections.

So can you drive back fro the IVA pass or fail without breaking the law?

Ok, cheers. Im trying to prove to my dad that i can drive to the IVA test and he wants to see it himself. I dont suppose anyone knows where i might find it? If nessercary il phone DVLA but want to try and avoid that

Its confirmed on the IVA test confirmation paperwork I believe.

you'll want to phone VOSA not the DVLA, but yes you can drive it to and from the test unless your examiner deems the car too dangerous then I believe they have the power to prevent you driving off in it if you dont have a trailer.

yep. unless the inspector condems the car (say he thought your chassis was dangerous for example) in which case he can say you're not allowed to drive it away, but otherwise you can drive to and from the IVA, but not DVLA which is stupid

If you fail then you can drive to pre-arranged bookings at garages to get it fixed.

Nice little loop-hole. No suggestion that you need to book garage appointments "locally" either, or whether you need to take the shortest route.

here you go, advise to to take a print out of what ever document page you choose as proof as when I asked the plod about this before finding documentary proof I was told there was NO circumstance where you could drive without tax.

the pre booked reason has to be mandatory which is why DVLA inspections don't work as that is at the discretion of the local office.

You will need insurance though, and this will be on the chassis no.

but any copper would have an idea of whats 'reasonable'...
you'd never be allowed to live in oxford, and drive to a pre arranged MOT in devon or something. they're not stupid
