Hi, in the new year, when i will have money i`m planning to get back into my car project.
Will i fall foul of IVA re fuell cap in luggage.
It is a hatchback config, with the fuel filler mounted underneathe the hatchback polycarb.
The rubber seal prevents it being acually in the boot, with the cap base sealed using sealant.I was wondering is the iva inspector will frown on it being so close to the luggage compartment.

is the rubber fuel resistant? If it is i think you MAY have a chance. It would be better is the section wasn't accessible from the boot side.

I'm interested in the answer as i'm thinking of something similar on mine.

have you got a photo of the 'wider area' ie the 'luggage compartment'?

Rubber seal? Don't know, probally not, I suppose. The hose is.
I suppose the hole in the plastic hatch could have a cnc machined cap, with a fuel resistant seal arround so when closed it seals.
Thing is if they are gong to be funny, I might have to relocate. Don't want to put loads of effor and money to be flatly refused, whatever I try.

On my Bluebird there is a rubber ring that seals the filler hose to the body work that would probably be just ideal for sealing your cars boot. Obviously its fuel proof and is quite flexible and large (4 inches in diameter on the Bluebird). Its designed to fit on a metal lip too.

This is the parts for the Nissan Almeria and again it looks like they have used the same part, both seam to share many components. Perhaps worth checking out?

is there a floor to this 'luggage comartment'? if there is, then the fuel tank in there is a bigger problem
if there's no floor to it, then its not a luggage compartment, however, you really ought to have a bulkhead between where the tank is, and the passenger compartment

Yeah bulkhead between seats and tank.
6mm perspex between passenger and boot at top.
Fibre glass enclosure forms boot space.
So tank is seperate from passenger and boot, only bit in boot is the ali tube and hose used to fill tank.

out of interest what does the entire car look like? got any pics?

one of the best bits of advice the IVA man said to me was...If a full blown manufacturer does it and you utilise the same principle with the same standard of components and security it will pass the IVA ie prove that it would meet their (Ford/VW/etc) standards
