Following on from my post about crashing my car,
the Insurance assessor came this afternoon and wrote the car off (Probably)
The question is if he makes it a category C,B can I still re-chassis it and make it road legal relatively easily?
I really couldn't be arsed with IVA
it should really have to be IVAd i think, but if you bought an identical brand new chassis, stamped the same number on it, who's to know...
i don't recommend that sort of behaviour, you understand...
C & D Yes,
B must be permanently dismantled i.e. spares only, never to be put back on the road.
A - Crushed.
D is the best you dont need any post work checks then.
if you haven;t already you will prob have to surrender the V5
if it ends up cat B,. it cant go back on the road at all, you won;t ba able to get a V5 for the car
Cat C, can go back on the road, but will require a VIC check before DVLA will isue a new V5

just been through this, dont give in, tell them you want it back, DONT mention the fact that youre replacing the chassis to the insurers. restamp it with the same numbers and youre fine.
I used to be an insurance assessor, try and negotiate a 'cash in lieu of repair', this way it won't be on any register and you can repair it any way you like. re chassis -ing is a very acceptable way of repair and fully legal, just keep any receipts.
That sound promising especially "cash in lieu of repair'
Definatly give that a go.

hmm, doesn't look toooooooo bad, but i guess it depends on what happened to the suspension mounts, and what they're welded on to

The cat C and D are technical write-offs, meaning it would cost the insurer more to repair the vehicle than it's worth. Thing is the insurer has to use new parts and professional guys to do it racking up the bucks. No doubt if you (or some other nice person on this forum) rebuilt it then there'd be no need for the write off to happen. I think it might depend on this "in leiu of repair" thing though but cat C and D are repairable
The cash in lieu is simply a deal negotiated between the policyholder and the insurers engineer assessor to close the claim. I need not have any relation to the damage or the repairability.
